This year of 2019 of the Sports Club of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology

would not have been this successful if not for the guidance,support and encouragement of a

number of individuals.First and foremost,a huge thank goes out to the Dean of our Faculty,Dr.

H.B. Asanthi for her continuous encouragement and enthusiasm towards the sports in our

faculty.Next we would like to appreciate the enormous support given by Dr.K.H.M Ashoka

Deepananda,(Senior Treasurer of SCoFMST) and Ms.H.M.E.J Heenkenda,(Representative at the

Sport Advisory Board 2019) in successfully achieving our goals in the year 2019.We would also

like to thank Dr.K.S.S Athapattu,( Representative at the Sport Advisory Board 2020) and

Mrs.Kushlani Disanayake (Representative at the Sport Advisory Board 2019/2020) for the advice

and support given in the academic year 2020.

The year 2019 proved to be,by far the most successful year in the history of FMST sports with our

students among the top at the Inter Faculty Meet,41 students participating at the Sri Lanka

University Games 2019,1 participant at the World University Games 2019,11 University Colour

holders and 1 SLUSA Colour holder.All these achievements would not have been possible if not

for the encouragement and support given by the Director, Mr.P.N. Weerasinghe and the staff of

the Physical Education Unit, University of Ruhuna,the Academic staff of our Faculty, the Faculty

of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology and of course the hard work, sacrifices and

dedication by our students to achieve their best in their respective sports.

A timeline of the achievements of the Sports Club of Faculty of Fisheries and

Marine Sciences & Technology in the academic year 2019

1. A list of the best achievements in sports in the faculty (at the Inter University and Inter

Faculty level) was given to the Dean for her to include them in her speech at the

Inauguration Ceremony 2019.

2. Members and past members of the Sports Council did a presentation for the 13th batch during their orientation program about the history of sports at FMST,the current captains, the upcoming Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG),Fresher’s meets,Inter Faculty and Inter University meets,University and SLUSA colours and about the designing of the SLUG logo and mascot. A motivational video was also shown to boost their enthusiasm for sports.

9. A cupboard amounting to a cost of 15,500 Rupees was given by the Dean to the Sports Council.

10. Following equipment were bought by the Sports Council for the Faculty

• Scrabble board-3 Nos.

• Chess board-3 Nos.

• Volleyball -1 No.

• Tennis balls-8 Nos.

• Carrom board-1 No.

• First Aid box-2 Nos.

11. A Volleyball court was constructed on the Faculty grounds to promote Volleyball in the

faculty.

12. The Annual University Gymnasium Café was conducted by the Sports Council for a day.

13. Annual Batch Meet was conducted on 6th and 7th April 2019.
