Alice Hey everyone, I am a domestic student and I’m currently in my third year of dentistry! I moved here from Sydney and coming straight from high school, I know how hard it is adjusting to a new environment in a short span of time. Having to move back and forth from North Terrace Campus and AHMS, I would like to think I have an extensive knowledge on the whereabouts of places and services that you may need throughout your university life. Outside of university I like to play netball, dance, read and pet stray cats in the neighbourhood.

I’m working as a DA part-time and have some experience with summer research projects – so hit me up if you need any info about those topics. Amy Hello everyone, I am an international student from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and this is my 5th year in Adelaide. I am happy to say that I’m enjoying every single bit of Adelaide so far especially it’s peacefulness and calmness. Having pushed though the four years of my undergraduate dentistry course, I am excited that I finally made it into the final year of my degree. Being in the University of Adelaide for several years now, I’d like to think that I know all the ins and outs of campus life and the not-always-so-obvious demands for academic success. I do understand that as a new university student, especially if you are an international student just like me, uni life can be a bit overwhelming – new environment, new friends, new teaching styles and even new ways of studying. However, with a helping hand, I know that you will eventually learn to love uni life as I do now. I love meeting new people, going for foodie adventures and travelling!

Araj Welcome to the world of University and new experiences! I’m currently in my 5th year, studying a double degree in Law and Health Sciences. I would love to share my positive experiences and challenges with you in the hopes that it may guide you to take unique opportunities, potentially stand out as a student and overall have an enjoyable time! Carmela Hey I am a 3rd year Health and Medical Science student and if all goes to plan, I will be graduating at the end of the year! During my time at university, I have picked up a trick or two about making university life somewhat easier. In saying that, there are also things I wish I knew/ I wish I did earlier. As your peer mentor, I will provide you with some tips, study strategies, and help remind/direct you to some services our University has that you may have forgotten or didn’t know of. The transition into the Uni environment can be challenging but trust me, it will get easier. I will be juggling mentoring with my own studies as well as other commitments so we will have some face-to-face sessions and we will be in contact via email. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you to help you transition then transcend!

Chingwen Hey everyone, I am an international student from Singapore and I have been in Adelaide for 4 years now. I have happy to say that I have learned the culture and I now call McDonalds – Maccas. Having pushed though the three years of undergraduate years in psychology, I am excited that I have gotten into honours and am now working on my thesis. Having studied in the University of Adelaide for 3 years, I’d like to think I know all the ins and outs of campus life and the not-always-so-obvious demands for academic success. I understand that as a new university student, uni life can be daunting – new campus, new friends and even new ways of studying. However, with a little help, I know that you will learn to love uni life as I do now. I love travelling (just got back from NYC!!) and meeting new people and volleyball!

Kariel Hi everyone! I am excited to get to meet and know you all. I am from Canada and have moved here with my family to study with the University of Adelaide. I had completed one year at the University of Alberta in Canada when I heard of the opportunity to come to Australia for a degree. As I waited for my visa to be completed, I had the opportunity to do a bit of travelling (mainly in Scotland, Thailand, and then exploring some of Australia). Now I am in my second year with Uni of Adelaide and have learned all about the resources to utilise as an undergrad student. Outside of university, I work as a lifeguard/pool attendant. I also love to prioritise my health, so I make sure to stay active. One way I do so in university is with the Yoga and Meditation Club that I am a part of.

overcome them. I would love to share with you how to make the most of your time at the University of Adelaide and really enjoy yourself! In my free time, I love to go outdoors, such as the beach or hikes, and seeking out new eateries to visit. I have also danced for many years, my favourite genres being jazz and musical theatre.

Christina Hello! I started uni in 2016 straight from high school, and was enrolled in a LLB Law & International Relations. I quickly realised that it was not the course for me, took a gap year and re-enrolled in my current degree in 2018. I am now in my second year and am enjoying it much more! I have worked since 16 and moved out of home at 18 years. After a particularly trying two years and lots of trial and error, I am successfully balancing full-time uni, 25-30 hours of work a week, volunteering and do lots of fun stuff outside of uni too. When I’m not at uni or studying, I volunteer fortnightly at the RSPCA helping cute cats. I also enjoy powerlifting and go to the gym 5 times a week! I love to spend time with my boyfriend and catching up with friends. I also try to see as many new movies in the cinema as I can, and plan on travelling through Asia in the uni holidays. I definitely think a mentor in my first year of uni would have helped me immensely, as I needed support that I never knew was available. I have lots of experiences to draw on, and feel that my support could really help someone work through the initial leap into uni life and really make the most of your uni experience.

mentor I’m a general committee member for the AUScA (the Science Association), have done two summer research scholarships, a study tour in Korea, and like to think I know how to succeed in a new environment. It won’t take you long to get used to Uni life (and Adelaide life if you’ve just moved here) but I’m keen to help with tips to take some of the stress and uncertainty out of starting at uni.

Ashton Having just finished my first year, many of the challenges I faced while adjusting to uni life are still fresh in my mind. As a mentor, I can share those experiences with you and offer advice that may help you along the way. Sophia Hello! I’m an international nursing student in my 3rd year here at University of Adelaide. I moved to Adelaide two years ago from Panama (yes, the one with the canal) where I had lived for 14 years, but I am originally from the USA (Texas specifically, y’all). I decided to come to the other side of the world on my own to study (despite all my friends reminding me that all the animals try to kill you over here) when I realised how good of an opportunity it is to travel and study during the exciting time right out of highschool. I’m in my final year now, so I have a good understanding of how things work around here (or at least I act like I do, and I know who to ask). I also have the international experience under my belt so I know very well the feeling of just needing to have one person who you can contact when things feel a little too overwhelming (I can be that person!). Outside of uni I’m a photographer and I love to travel; Whether it's home to family or on trips with my friends, I just want to see more of the world!

Molly Hi everybody! I’m currently in my fourth and final year of a Bachelor of Psychological Science, with a Major in Anthropology. I initially studied a different degree, but after a few degree changes, I ended up in a Psych degree which I love; so I’m pretty well-versed when it comes to studying, transferring, and campus-life in general. Outside of University, I also live independently and work 30 hours a week in a part time job so I know the firsthand stresses that can come from moving away from your family, and how difficult it can be to balance work and uni in order to be able to pay your bills and live by yourself, whilst still performing well academically. I also love volunteering both at University and within the wider community, and when I’m not at uni, at work, or volunteering, I like to draw, play tennis and play team sports.

Hey guys, I’m currently a 2nd year psychology and neuroscience student. I plan to go get into an honours program followed by a masters in clinical psychology or neuroscience and become a psychologist or neuropsychologist. I have been a student at Adelaide for over a year and have taken many different classes and from different study areas so I know all the ins and outs of campus life and the not-always-so-obvious locations of all the confusing classroom numbers. I wish I’d chosen to have a mentor way back when I started to take some of the stress and uncertainty out of starting at uni and to help make friends as I am quite introverted. Uni can be a bit of a learning curve but there are things you can do to make it a bit easier, hopefully I can help you navigate uni pretty fast. Outside of uni I’m actively engaged in volunteering and I do dance class once a week. I’m into reading when I have the time and I enjoy trying to teach myself languages

I hope that I can offer some of you the same help I am grateful was available to me. Being a third year, I like to think I know a fair amount about uni life and studying, and am keen to pass on my knowledge.
