DH 264 Introduction to Table clinic
You will have the opportunity to raise awareness about a theory, service, or trend in dental
hygiene practice through Student Table Clinic and Research Poster Session Presentations. You
will be presenting to Maui County Dentists and Dental Hygienists and if you qualify you will be
given the opportunity to present at the State of Hawaii Dental Hygienists' Association Annual
Scientific Session where qualifying Table Clinics will be given the opportunity to present at the
National American Dental Hygienists' Association Convention.
Students will read Chapter 7: Research from Community Oral Health Practice for the Dental
Hygienist: Geurink.
Students will be introduced to writing a journal article review.
Students will learn to find journal articles.
You will learn about the purpose of dental hygiene research, be able to discuss evidence-based
practice, learn about ethics in research, and connect research with private practice dental
hygiene. You will also learn about research approaches and designs. This will assist you as you
evaluate dental care products and advocate for their use with your patients.
In working on the table clinics and doing site visits we will be introduced to research and public
speaking. This week will form the foundation of the table clinics.
