ACADEMICADVISEMENTTheUniversityofSouthernIndianarecognizesacademicadvisingtobeacriticalcomponentoftheeducationalexperienceofitsstudents.Throughindividual,collaborativerelationshipswithacademicadvisors,studentsarebestabletodefineandimplementsoundeducationalandvocationalplansthatareconsistentwiththeirpersonalvalues,goalsandcareerplans.AcademicadvisorsrepresentandinterpretUniversitypoliciesandprocedurestothestudentandhelpthestudentnavigatetheacademicandorganizationalpathsoftheinstitution.TheUniversityacknowledgesitsobligationtoprovidestudentswithaccurateandtimelyacademicadvising,deliveredthroughitsacademicdepartmentsandcolleges,aswellasthroughadditionalunitsandofficesdevotedtospecificstudentpopulationssuchasundecidedandconditionallyadmittedstudents.

FamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyAct(FERPA)AFERPAtutorialandonlinetrainingprogramisavailablethroughmyUSI.AfterloggingintomyUSI,lookforthegoldcertificateicontotheleft.TheFamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyAct(FERPA)affordsstudentscertainrightswithrespecttotheireducationrecords.Theserightsinclude:1. Therighttoinspectandreviewthestudent'seducationrecordswithin45daysofthedaytheUniversity
receivesarequestforaccess.• Studentsshouldsubmittotheregistrar,dean,headoftheacademicdepartment,orother
appropriateofficialwrittenrequeststhatidentifytherecord(s)theywishtoinspect.TheUniversityofficialwillmakearrangementsforaccessandnotifythestudentofthetimeandplacewheretherecordsmaybeinspected.IftherecordsarenotmaintainedbytheUniversityofficialtowhomtherequestwassubmitted,thatofficialshalladvisethestudentofthecorrectofficialtowhomtherequestshouldbeaddressed.
2. Therighttorequesttheamendmentofthestudent'seducationrecordsthatthestudentbelievesare
inaccurateormisleading.• StudentsmayasktheUniversitytoamendarecordthattheybelieveisinaccurateormisleading.
TheyshouldwritetheUniversityofficialresponsiblefortherecord,clearlyidentifythepartoftherecordtheywantchanged,andspecifywhyitisinaccurateormisleading.IftheUniversitydecidesnottoamendtherecordasrequestedbythestudent,theUniversitywillnotifythestudentofthedecisionandadvisethestudentofhisorherrighttoahearingregardingtherequestforamendment.Additionalinformationregardingthehearingprocedureswillbeprovidedtothestudentwhennotifiedoftherighttoahearing.
3. Therighttoconsenttodisclosuresofpersonallyidentifiableinformationcontainedinthestudent's
educationrecords,excepttotheextentthatFERPAauthorizesdisclosurewithoutconsent.• Oneexceptionwhichpermitsdisclosurewithoutconsentisdisclosuretoschoolofficialswith

Advising• Allstudentsarerequiredtomeetwithanadvisoreachsemester.Registrationholdswillbeplacedonall
studentspriortoPriorityRegistrationandremovedbytheacademiccollegesaftermeetingwithanadvisor.
EarlyAlert• Instructorsshouldhavegradedassignmentswithinthefirstthreeweeksofclassfor200-levelcoursesand
below.• EarlyAlertreportingisrequiredforall200-levelcoursesandbelow.TheEarlyAlertgradingandnon-
