Reliability Class Importance Factor Classification Criteria
1 1.0 Failure would result in risk of injury or unacceptable disruption of service.
2 0.9 Failure would result in negligible risk of injury. Loss of service is not critical.
3 0.8 All consequences of failure are tolerable. No foreseeable risk of injury.
Explanation of CSA Class 1 vs Class 3 Wind Loading• • The following pages contain wind loading specifications for each tower model. The wind load
capacity is expressed as the “maximum allowable antenna area” that can be placed at the tower top, based on a specific wind pressure.
• • The term “antenna area” refers to the surface area of the antenna that’s exposed to wind.
• • For example, a flat panel antenna will have a projected surface area roughly equivalent to the Length x Width of the largest surface. In the example pictured on the right, the projected surface area would equal, Length (2') x Width (1') = 2'.
• • The pages also provide allowable antenna areas based upon CSA Class 1, and CSA Class 3. The Class 3 design offers greater strength capacity for each tower.
• • A simple guide line for interpreting when a tower installation would be considered Class 1 or Class 3 is shown in the table below. 1'
