3. CONDOLENCES

Our condolences are extended to Maria and Jack Kropman on the passing away of their son Derrick, who matriculated as a prefect at Fairmont in 2000. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with the Kropman family and Derrick’s friends at this sad time.

4. FAIRMONT’S NEW LOGO

Last year a task team was established to develop a new logo for our school that would be simple but meaningful in its design which would become recognised and associated with the Fairmont brand.

After some developmental attempts a final product was established. Various elements associated with our coat of arms were considered, namely the vine leaves on the coat of arms that represent the vineyards of the farms of years gone on which Fairmont was established, and the beautiful mountains that form a backdrop for our school.

Observation of our coat of arms shows the representation of these mountains.

These triangular shapes which are ever present in nature and those which are man-made are familiar to us all.

The following final product was accepted:

Page 4: Fairmont Focus 1: 23 January 2015

The triangles represent the mountains in the colours of our school houses, with the inner triangle representing the ‘brown’ of Fairmont.

This logo will not replace our coat of arms, but rather compliment it.

Thank you to those involved in this project.

8. OUR 2015 MATRICS

Our academic year got underway on Wednesday this week with our opening assembly and the ceremonial pinning of the matric badges. Matrics received their badges in recognition of their status at the school at the beginning of their fifth and final year at Fairmont. We wish our Matrics well this year as they commence their journey to their final exams.

As a point of interest, please see the table below which presents a guide to the number of teaching days for our Matrics at school this year.
