Benefits of Fairtrade for tea producers and workers
Fairtrade certification ensures that small producers and workers are treated more fairly and receive wages greater than or in line with legal minimum wage. Tea workers from Fairtrade certified estates and small holder organizations also benefit from the Fairtrade Premium paid directly to worker committees or the producer organization for community improvements.

Tea is one of just six Fairtrade products with Standards for hired labour. Since most plantations contract with non-migratory workers and tea is produced year-round, it is easier to ensure that the benefits of Fairtrade reach workers.
