THANK YOU TO OUR 2014-2015 DONORS* Recognizes giving based on cash received from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015

The mission of Seeds of Hope is to make the tremendous benefit of Catholic education available toeconomically disadvantaged students concentrated in the inner city of Denver.

AT SEEDS OF HOPE:v Papal expert George Weigel gave the keynote address at the 2014 Evening of Hope gala in November. Weigel spoke on the importance of Catholic schools in inner-city communities. Seeds of Hope’s core mission rang through in his parting words of “Whatever we do for the least of His brethren, whatever we do for the little ones, we do for Him.” Also at the gala, Tom and Lisa Heule were awarded the prestigious Sr. Lavonne Award for extraordinary service to our inner-city schools.

v As of January 1, Seeds of Hope, along with seven other Catholic ministries, is now part of the new nonprofit The Catholic Foundation Alliance (Alliance). Functioning under the umbrella of The Catholic Foundation, the Alliance is a consolidated effort of resources and people to serve our Archdiocesan ministries in a more efficient and strategic manner. The full Seeds of Hope staff, along with development, marketing, and event personnel from the other ministries, are now working under the new model as one team. Our offices have moved just a few blocks away, and the Board, leadership and mission of Seeds of Hope remain the same.

v In March, Adopt-A-Student donors had the opportunity to spend time with their student(s) at their schools for a special lunch visit. While donors regularly receive mailed updates on their students, these lunches offered a unique opportunity for the donors and recipients to get to know each other in person. These generous donors cover a significant portion of a student’s tuition throughout the school year.

IN OUR SCHOOLS: v Three of the Seeds of Hope schools were upgraded with some state-of-the-art technology in 2015. More than 540 iPads were deployed to all Pre-K through 8th grade students at St. Rose of Lima, Guardian Angels, and Assumption schools thanks to a partnership with the JDO Foundation.

v Over the last five years, St. Rose of Lima and Annunciation Catholic Schools have partnered with Expeditionary Learning, a program which encourages excellence in academics through special training and in-depth, long-term projects or “Expeditions.” The Expeditions presented included everything from water quality studies to landscaping to the liturgical calendar.

v Kevin Kijewski began as the superintendent of Catholic schools in June 2015. He replaced Richard Thompson who retired in February after 14 years with the Archdiocese of Denver. Kijewski hails most recently from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where he served as an associate superintendent of secondary schools. “We can do things in a brand new way,” he said. “We have to expect a culture of growth.” Innovation, growth and leadership will be the three levers of his tenure.
