Series: One Another’s (Why Christian Connection Matters)
Sermon: Love One Another
Pastor Brett @ Faith Church Sunday, January 7, 2018
Leviticus 19:18 “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of
your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”
John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,
so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,
if you love one another.”
1 John 4:7-8 “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Every-
one who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does
not know God, because God is love.”
John 15:12-13 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater
love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Romans 12:8 “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love
one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.”
Introduction: Elephant In The Room
Loving One Another Reminders:
Reminder #1: God is l__________, God c____________ us to love one another
and God m_______ what true love is! (1 John 4:7-12)
7 “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been
born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we
might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his
Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to
love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and
his love is made complete in us.” 1John4:7-12
Reminder # 2: Jesus taught us the w______ to l_____ o______ a_________!
John 13:34-35
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one an-
other. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John
13:34-35
Question: God the Father and the Son have set the precedent, but why do they set
such a precedent to love one another?
Reminder # 3:Love c___________ over a m_______________ of s_____! 1 Pe-
ter 4:8
8 “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”1Peter4:8
How blessed the church — especially the church in transition
— that loves like this!

(Scenes from The Passion of the Christ)
Communion in the Evangelical Congregational Church
1. You must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in order to partake of com-
munion today.
2. You do NOT need to be a member of an EC Church, or any church, in order to par-
take this morning.
3. If you have a child with you today, whether you are the parent or guardian, it is your
decision whether they partake of communion or not. Please make sure they under-
stand the following:
a. They know Jesus Christ by faith as their Lord and Savior.
b. They understand what the bread and the juice represent.
Communion at Faith Church
Here at Faith Church, we serve communion in the pews and occasionally at the altar
rail. Today’s communion is at the altar rail; therefore, let us explain a few things:
1. We use bread and grape juice for communion here at Faith Church.
2. The first table will be those assisting Pastor Brett and Pastor Tim as they serve
communion this morning. (Pianist, Ushers, Pastor Tim, and Sonya)
3. After the first table, an usher will come by your pew and dismiss your pew to come
to the altar rail; please follow the following directions:
a. Exit your pew to the window side of the Sanctuary, and when you are dis-
missed from the altar rail, please come back through the middle aisle.
b. If you cannot kneel or stand, please sit in one of the first pews; the Pastors will
serve you there.
c. When you arrive at the altar rail, please remaining standing until one of the
Pastors says, “Please kneel if you are able.” You may kneel or stand at the altar
rail at this point.

Actions That Can Help Us Love One Another
1. Drop an encouraging card in the mail or send an email or an encouraging text.
2. Pray through our church directory.
3. Invite someone over for a meal.
4. Come to game night.
5. Have a game night at your house and invite some people from Faith Church.
6. Have coffee with someone and get to know them.
7. If you know of an “issue,” don’t let it fester; speak truth wrapped in love to the ap-
propriate people. (Holding on to it or not speaking about it is not helping us to love
one another.)
