How do you keep a world class museum working? The Sam No- ble Oklahoma Museum of Natu- ral History located on the OU campus in Norman is the top university based museum in the country. Eons of Oklahoma's natural history can be seen in a 195,000 sq.ft. facility. Five gal- leries feature thousands of arti- facts. Visitors can immerse themselves in the fascinating natural and cultural history of Oklahoma. Not only are the fos- sils & exhibit items rare, but some artifacts are priceless. The right temperature & humidity levels are critical to insure the preservation of cloth, leather, and painted objects. That’s why Marlin Butcher, Facility Man- ager, and his assistant Wesley Wilson, have their hands full in maintaining the HVAC systems in their building. “We don’t want to run out of the critical HVAC parts we stock for our facility”. says Marlin. “When we use up certain parts, we have to re-order immediately. Federal’s Online Order system is available all the time, even at 3:00 am in the morn- ing. We appreciate being able to place an order 24 hours a day. That is just one less thing to worry about. And you even accept credit cards.” Marlin and Wes find they increasingly use their fingers on their keyboards— finding both routine and hard-to- find products for their facility. They report that having a printed version of the order to give to their accounting department is also a benefit. What makes Federal’s online or- der system so unique is the breadth of it’s products. Because of Federal’s association with Control Group North America, which consists of 35 of the na- tion’s largest HVAC control dis- tributors, any customer can now Marlin Butcher (L) and Wesley Wilson( R) at Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman, Okla- homa. “With fuel costs rising

25-65% in just one

year , you may find

that energy savings

are actually a key to

survival in your

market”

David Farthing.

FUEL COSTS GOT YOU STEAMIN? Fuel costs are literally sky-rocketing and energy sav-ings are no longer just a nice thing to look at. They have an actual impact on the profitability of your organization. With fuel costs rising 25-65% in just one year , you may find that energy savings are actually a key to survival in your market. Federal Corpora-tion has several process improvements that have true payback and give fast return on your investment. The following will help you to control your energy costs in your Boiler Room. Feed water Economizers, Fuel/Air Ratio Control, and Oxygen Trim Control are just three of many ways you can control energy costs.

The Economizer is a gas to liquid heat exchanger in-

stalled on the exhaust of your boiler to recover waste heat from the stack effluent. It works by transferring the waste heat from the stack to the boiler feed water, thus lowering the firing rate re-quired to meet your plant demand.

Since boilers are rated at 212°F any addition of heat to the feed water from an outside source will help to lower the amount of fuel

required to meet demand. A rise of just 10 degrees in feed water temperature will lower fuel input needs by 1%. Depending on your normal firing rate, an in-crease of just 20-30 de-grees can result in a 2-3% fuel savings!! And most economizer applications pay back in less than 12 months.

Fuel/Air Ratio Control is important to both the safety and efficiency of the burner/boiler package. Im-plementing a Cross-Limited Fuel/Air Ratio control strat-egy improves combustion control over the entire firing range.

Typical jack-shafted com-bustion systems are set up

with excess air rates by at least 4-5%. By correcting this to near perfect combus-tion over the entire firing range, an energy savings of 2% or more may be imme-diately recognized.

Return on this investment can be a fast as 12 months, but is typically 15-18 months.

As a plus, these systems provide a means of measur-ing fuel to each boiler al-lowing allocation of re-sources to the actual point of use.

The Oxygen Trim system when integrated, will add an additional 1 ½% - 2% fuel savings. Oxygen trim is used to fine-tune the fuel/air ratio and to correct the ratio due to the effects of sea-sonal environmental changes in combustion air.

Oxygen Trim returns your investment in 8-12 months depending on existing op-erational conditions.

Mike Haigh (middle) said “This summer, my wife Cheryl,, 12 year old daughter and 14-year old son spent our vacation in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. We joined 15 oth-ers to work in an orphanage for a week. Our mission was to show the children God's love by leading a Vacation Bible School in the morn-ing and a sports camp in the after-noon. What an experience! I ex-pected my kids would be over-whelmed with gratitude for the incredible luxury we have in Amer-ica. but, it was I who found I could not stop counting my blessings."

Brian Mackey (right) and his wife Yolanda went to San Cristabol de Las Casas, Mexico in July. They went with 13 other persons from their church. While in Mexico, they worked with the Harvest Evangelistic Association . They helped with building construction, participated in the children's ministry, and vis-ited 3 mountain churches. They viewed it as an opportunity to spend their time and resources for something that is eternal.

What do three Federal Corpora-tion employees have in common? They have all gone on mission trips this summer.

Dwight Juliuson (on left) and his wife Eva went to Guayaquill, Ecua-dor in August. They visited mis-sionaries who have been working for 15 years in this city of 3 million people .They were able to meet with leaders of all the churches and hold classes on the “blended fam-ily”, families made up of children from different parents.
