The Inside Informer
By Carol Bettis
Letter From the Executive Director.
“The people of the Panhandle are the most giving people in the world!” This is a statement I
make often, but this past month I have personally witnessed our community coming together
for one common goal. Our SnackPak4 kids program, a weekend hunger program has been
blessed not only financially but by volunteers who want to give their time and energy helping
our hungry students. To all of you who have filled snack bags, delivered food, started a pop tart
drive or gave of your own money… Thank you! Thanks to the community churches and
community workers, we have over a thousand school age children who will not go to bed
hungry over the weekend. If you want to get involved, call Dyron Howell at 1-806-342-6190,
and he will be more than happy to work with you.
PCS is a non-profit agency, and funding streams are always a concern. However, PCS will be
able to continue the services needed to our low-income, elderly and disadvantaged in 2012. We
are striving to leverage all of our funds to assist the whole family whether it is through utility
assistance and conservation tips, or weatherization for a more energy efficient home. We plan
to assist many families with our transportation and HUD program again this next year.
As your Community Action Executive Director, I want to thank you for your support and belief
in our mission. We will continue to “Make Life Better, One Family At a Time”.

Note of Appreciation to our Weatherization Department;
I have had several calls here in Pampa from Clients that our PCS Weatherization Department have gone out
and made their homes more energy efficient. Most of them have been elderly? and or disabled. They want
to thank us for all the hard work the crews have done to improve their homes. I had one elderly lady from
Pampa in her 90’s call almost in tears she was so happy with the work that was done, and how efficient they
were, and also the cleanup afterwards was great! These people are on a fixed income and can not afford to
do this on their own, so this program is wonderful for them. They are so thankful to everyone involved in
doing this for them What ever is done, new heater or air conditioner installed, caulking , or windows
replaced, it all makes their home cozy and comfortable.
“Thanks to our Weatherization Dept,”

HAILS AND FAREWELLS
Hails
Welcome to our newest transit drivers; William Baldridge, Jacqueline Chavez,
Rod Flynt, Jimmie Perkins, and Troy McCormick. These drivers are working
out of our Pampa, Hereford, Canyon, and Borger offices and we’re so glad
they are part of our team!
Farewells:
Unfortunately we had to say good bye to Joel Leimer and Cathy Olivarez! Joel
was a transit driver and Cathy was a HUD Program Specialist working out of
Canyon and Hereford respectively. They both did a fantastic job for us and
will certainly be missed! We wish them luck in all their future endeavors!
A Word from the Directors:
CEAP/Angie Ascenico: CEAP received an additional $1.5 M. This money is
already obligated and will cover our November and December Elderly disabled
payments. We will also be covering pending appliance requests—and that
means heat for the elderly disabled!
“No one does it like CEAP! We bust a move while moving CEAP funds!”
Transportation/Lylene Springer: Last quarter transportation completed more
than 129,000 trips and drove 351,000 miles. We also purchased 4 new Chevy
Traverse’s and we can’t wait to get them on the road.
“My drivers are the best!”
Weatherization/ Ken Rusler: The ARRA contract is winding down and we
hope to be completely finished by October 31, 2011. We have completed 168
homes and spent $1,379,962.20 during the third quarter. We want to thank our
assessors, Atlas Efficiency Solutions, our contractors; IQM, LLC, Bratton
Construction, TEDCO Buildings N Things, e3 Solutions, G-3 Construction, as
well as our staff for all their hard work and dedication.
