After meeting with regional and local authorities in 2010 and 2011 to characterize the area through which the line will run, Hydro-Québec defined three corridors in the Laurentian Plateau and two others in the agricultural plain. In the Laurentian Plateau, Hydro-Québec chose to continue its studies of the two corridors that run through the territory of the regional county municipality (MRC) of Matawinie. However, to take into account the concerns of the community, Hydro-Québec modified the west corridor so that it bypasses the Taureau reservoir from the north instead of the south. In the agricultural plain, Hydro-Québec selected the east corridor. Hydro-Québec conducted detailed surveys of the corridors in winter 2011–2012, and is proposing two distinct variants. In the Laurentian Plateau, the west route runs through three unorganized territories in the MRC of Matawinie and through the northern section of the territory belonging to the municipality of Saint-Michel-des-Saints, to then join the corridor of an existing 735-kV line (circuit 7016) for about 84 km. This route has the advantage of grouping together Hydro-Québec’s lines in a single corridor, but it is about 17 km longer than the east route. The east route runs through the territory of the Mastigouche wildlife reserve, east of Taureau reservoir, and also runs along the existing line corridor, but for just 27 km. In establishing these line routes, Hydro- Québec tried to reduce the impact on the view from vacation areas and village hubs as much as possible. In the agricultural plain, Hydro-Québec is proposing a single route that runs along an existing line in the RCMs of Montcalm and Joliette and then uses, for 28 km, the right-of- way of a 315-kV line that will be dismantled from Saint-Paul to Terrebonne. This route has significant advantages since it avoids the addition of a new line corridor in this part of Lanaudière. The current consultation phase is designed to ensure that the route selected is the one with the least impact on Lanaudière from a technical, economic, environmental and social standpoint. REGIONAL BULLETIN

Public participation and next stepsHydro-Québec has implemented a public participation program to establish a dialogue while the studies are being carried out. The company thus wishes to factor the concerns and expectations expressed by interested parties into the project so it best fits local realities.

Tangible support for community development Hydro-Québec wants its facilities to blend harmoniously into the host environment. It sees its projects as oppor-tunities to actively participate in the development of host communities and has set up the Integrated Enhancement Program (IEP) with this intent. For each new power transmission project covered by this program, Hydro-Québec grants eligible organizations funding equivalent to 1% of the initially authorized value of the facilities covered by the IEP.

735-kV Chamouchouane –Bout-de-l’Île Line

Lanaudière

Route study

The future 400-km long Chamouchouane–Bout- de-l’Île line will run through the administrative region of Lanaudière for either 191 km or 163 km, depending on the route variant selected.

In the Laurentian Plateau, the west route runs through three unorganized territories in the MRC of Matawinie and through the northern section of the territory belonging to the municipality of Saint-Michel-des-Saints,

to then join the corridor of an existing 735-kV line (circuit 7016) for about 84 km. In establishing these line routes, Hydro-Québec tried to reduce the impact on the view from vacation areas and village hubs as much as possible.
