A Quarterly Publication for KEMBA Financial Credit Union Members

The holiday season is fast approaching, which means many of us will be spending time shopping for the perfect gift for our families and friends. This is also the time of year when thieves spend time staking out parking lots and shopping centers for easy targets. Use these holiday safety tips to make this season a safe one for you and yours.

Shop with a friend. When you shop with another person, thieves are less likely to target you for theft. It can also make you feel more secure.

Keep gifts and everyday items out of sight. Bags filled with goodies sitting on your back seat are attractive to a burglar. Instead of leaving items in plain sight, lock all gifts in your trunk to avoid tempting a potential thief.

Move your car when you drop off presents. If you are like most people, you don’t want to carry too many items from store to store. If you choose to drop off your purchases to your vehicle and resume shopping, consider moving your car a few lanes. Thieves stake out parking lots for people leaving gifts in their cars and returning back to the mall. If they see you drive away, they will likely assume your shopping trip is over and look for another target.

Have your car keys out and ready. When returning to your vehicle, have your keys ready to unlock the door and enter your car. As you approach your vehicle, do a quick scan of the area around you to ensure there is nobody suspicious lurking around.

Take note of where you parked your car. While this sounds easy, most of us can remember a time when we had some trouble locating our car in a busy parking lot. Being unable to locate your car may present you as a better target to a criminal.

Park in well-lit areas of the parking lot. If you plan to shop until nightfall, look for light poles to park near or beside. These can also serve as a referencepoint when trying to locate your car.

We offer:• Zero origination fees

• Flexible repayment options

• Lower rates and fees than other traditional “private” lenders

*APR=Annual Percentage Rate. This rate will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate + 3.0%. The Prime Rate is variable and will adjust quarterly (January, April, July, October) on the first of the month as published in the Wall Street Journal on the first business day of the preceding month. Once your draw request is disbursed, we will use the current Prime + Margin for the purpose of assessing and tracking accruing interest. While the margin will never change on your line-of-credit, the Prime index is a variable rate that can fluctuate through the life of the loan. Please note that your interest rate, and any subsequent rate change, applies to the entire balance on your line-of-credit. Rate listed as of November 1, 2011. Floor rate of 6.00%. KEMBA reserves the right to change rates for new applications at any time and without notice. Subject to credit qualification. Minimum draw of $1,000 and maximum draw of $75,000.
