Letter from the Director

Nothing beats fall in New England. The leaves are changing color, the temperatures are cooling and there are plenty of autumn fairs to enjoy. While one might think with summer over the Parks and Recreation Department might be winding down; this couldn’t be farther from the

truth! This fall we are offering a fully packed programming and events schedule for the whole family. We are celebrat-ing the second annual Family Fitness Festival, Spook-A-Palooza: Halloween Carnival and Turkey Shoot Basketball Contest. We have also added a new bus trip in October to Salem, Massachusetts because nothing says Halloween like Salem. Looking a bit further towards the holidays you can enjoy our highly popular New York City Bus Trip and Breakfast with Santa events as well as enter your decorated house in our annual Holiday House Lights Contest. Full details on all of these fun filled events are available in this brochure and online at www.cantonrec.org.

As always, Parks and Recreation is offering a wide variety of programs from pre-school to seniors, sports to enrichment, fitness to education, there is bound to be something for every member of the family to enjoy. If for some reason there is an activity you are interested in that we are currently not offering, we always welcome new program suggestions.

Lastly, we are proud to say that we have been fully engaged in park renovations thanks to the STEAP Grant the town was awarded back in June of 2014. As of this publication we have resurfaced the Mills Pond Park tennis courts, basketball courts, repaired the fencing and fully renovated the Pool House. Still ahead we are looking to-wards renovating the Skate Park and developing a Parks Master Plan to help us look down the road to see what fur-ther passive and active recreational opportunities are need-ed for the Town of Canton.

Sincerely, Joshua T. Medeiros, MS, CPRP Director of Parks and Recreation Town of Canton
