Audition Procedure
Learn the tune Ceora; strive for memorization. Audition process will be as follows: 1. Play one time through the head tune.2. Play Lee Morgan’s improvised solo. Listen to the tune from the album Cornbread available
on iTunes and YouTube in order to get a feel for the inflections and articulations that he plays. The recording is aound q=124; we can adjust the tempo as needed for the audition.
3. One of the scales to learn is the 7+9: think of it as a ascending melodic minor starting on the leading tone, so A7+9 is: A Bb C D b E b F G A. Strive to play through several measures of the chord changes in order to achieve a lyric approach to your solo.
4. If possible, improvise on the chord changes to Ceora. Alternatively you may improvise over blues in a key of your choice.
