As you prepare to join the University of Cincinnati College of Law’s LL.M. Class of 2017, I am writing to provide you with some important updates to help make your transition more successful.

Your first day at Cincinnati Law will be August 8. Please arrive at the College of Law by 9:00 A.M.

As you already know, LLM Welcome Week will run from August 8 to the 12. All new LLM students will participate in LLM Welcome Week. The following week, all new UC Law students (in both the LLM and JD programs) will participate in orientation programming titled “Week One.” A detailed schedule of events for these week-long activities will be sent to you in July. However, for now, please commit 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on your calendar Monday through Friday. We also expect to have one or two events during the evenings or on the weekend.

To prepare, please purchase the three books included on the enclosed book list. You may wish to read or skim these books in advance, particularly if English is not your native language. The first book listed (Whose Monet) is of particular importance as it will provide you an introduction to the American legal system. You are encouraged to purchase all of these books soon from any retailer you choose.

ON “DAY ONE” you will begin learning the foundational skills that will transcend your time at Cincinnati Law. These are skills you will use just as much on your last day of class as you will on your first day of class. Your week-long orientation program has been carefully designed, and will provide you with the background and understanding of our legal system, while teaching you the individual skills you need to be a successful law student.
