Fall 2017 Issue No.1
EOPS NEWS Napa Valley College EOPS Newsletter August 2017
As we begin the new academic year we would like to remind you that all
EOPS students are required to have at least three counseling contacts
per semester. Remember that when you keep EOPS informed of what’s
going on with your studies, we can help you make informed and responsible
decisions. So take advantage of the visits with your counselors to make this a
successful semester!
First contact Your first contact with an EOPS counselor will be when you come in to pick up your
book award, if eligible. During this time you will have the opportunity to check in with
your counselor and discuss your Spring and Summer grades. You can, at this point,
also make changes to your Fall schedule of classes and revise your educational plan,
if necessary.
Second contact, This contact should take place midway through the semester, you can come in to share your academic progress,
discuss any services or changes that need to be made, and revise your educational plan if necessary.
Third contact During this third contact we will assess your progress; review your educational plan and help you register for clas-
ses for the next semester.

“Tutoring with EOPS has helped me learn about myself as a student, has hum-
bled me as a person, paid for several college expenses, and qualifies as a desira-
ble extra curricular colleges look for. . I worked 4 hours a week and made enough
to cover car insurance for a year, so huge bonus. I couldn't recommend tutoring
anymore, like seriously, what are you waiting for? Do it!”
See what previous EOPS tutors have to say!
“A message to any students considering tutoring: It's been a fun experi-
ence to be able to help students figure out math problems that I once struggled
with. Often you will find that the students that come in only need a little nudge in the
right direction, and from there you get to see them make connections when they're
working on problems.”

San Francisco Mission Mural Tour
June 1st, 2017
“It was nice to see art and hearing the
history behind it. It was also nice to be
able to share this experience with peers.”
“Two things I liked about the field trip was
all the murals that people have done, it was
interesting knowing the stories behind it.
And taking the BART which was a new
experience.”

EOPS counselors Maricel Ignacio and Alex Guerrero co-taught the
summer class Counseling 101: College Discovery. Also known as the
ASPIRE Class. The ASPIRE summer bridge program is designed to
help students make a smooth transition from high school to Napa
Valley College both academically and socially.
Eighteen students participated in the two-week summer class. Repre-
sentatives from various NVC programs were invited to present and
share helpful information with the students. The students also got a
campus tour where they got to learn the location for NVC services.
ASPIRE Students attended a field trip to University of California, Da-
vis. They got a campus tour and ate pizza in downtown Davis.
