Tips for Saving Money on Retail
• Sign up for shop emails. Many retailers run very frequent promotions ranging from 20-40% off. Codes can be found on a near
weekly basis at some companies. Also, many retailers offer a small discount on a first purchase when signing up at their site. I recommend using a dedicated email for this so that sale offers don’t get mixed in with your private
communications and the important notices from banks, utilities, etc.
• Search online for store coupon codes. Or try the CouponSherpa app.
• Use the store discount that you get for completing surveys (often printed on the bottom of your receipt).
• Consider using a service like Paribus which gives you cash back if you buy an item that later gets discounted. Other cash back sites include Ebates, FatWallet and Swagbucks.
• Shop out of season, particularly for wardrobe staples. Use those end of season sales to get ahead with a few fresh pieces for next year.
• Consider shopping sites like Ebay or Poshmark. Sometimes you can find items “new with tags” and there are some styles (like the J. Crew sweater jacket shown in this capsule) that stay essentially the same from year to year.
