Do you have some older genetics just sitting in your tank? Have you just a couple of embryos left from a flush long ago that you don’t think you’ll ever implant? Here is a chance for you to clean out your tank and donate to a great cause. The Missouri Holstein juniors are accepting embryos of any type or amount that anyone would like to donate. They will be auctioned during the Missouri State Convention sale on January 19, 2018. This is also a great opportunity to purchase some embryos at a fraction of their cost. For more information or to donate please contact Jr Advisor, Shannon Kleiboeker at 417-737-2876 [email protected] or Tim Ewing, Holstein USA at 417-818-6455 [email protected]. The Missouri 4-H Dairy Judging Team is seeking annual donors to support the travel experiences of the team. We recently lost a large annual sponsor, and need to replace approximately $3500 of our annual budget. We are asking our dairy supporters for your assistance because you know fi rst hand what being a part of a judging team means to young people. In fact, during the survey we conducted in 2013, former Missouri 4-H Dairy Judging Team members told us how important that experience was to their development. Judgers expressed they gained communication, public speaking, and presentation skills that have benefi ted them in their careers.Participants quoted that they treasured the experience, developed life skills, shaped them into the person they are today, experience could not be duplicated and meet a vast amount of people as summarized by this one person: “My experience in 4-H

judging shaped me into the person I am today and I owe the organization a tremendous thank you!” We appreciate your willingness to partner with us to continue this legacy for the MO 4-H Dairy

Judging Team. Your fi nancial contribution of $100, $250 or $500 is fully tax deductible. Won’t you consider helping us today? Thank you in advance for your support of Missouri 4-H Dairy Judging! To donate please contact Karla Deaver, MU Extension, P.O. Box 388, Mount Vernon, MO 65712, 417-466-3102, [email protected]

Dairy Judging team had a 50/50 raffle at State Fair.Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets for the youth participating in judging events throughout the year. Larry Wright won the raffl e and donated the money back to the team. Thank you!

Thank you again for supporting our Juniors!

Dairy MPP 2018 Enrollment - New Enrollment Options This YearDairy Producers Can Enroll for 2018 Coverage, Secretary Allows Producers to Opt Out

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31, 2017 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) today announced that starting Sept. 1, 2017, dairy producers can enroll for 2018 coverage in the Margin Protection Program (MPP-Dairy). Secretary Sonny Perdue has utilized additional flexibility this year by providing dairy producers the option of opting out of the program for 2018. “Secretary Perdue is using his authority to allow producers to withdraw from the MPP Dairy Program and not pay the annual administrative fee for 2018,”

To opt out, a producer should not sign up during the annual registration period. By opting out, a producer would not receive any MPP-Dairy benefits if payments are triggered for 2018. The voluntary program, established by the 2014 Farm Bill, provides financial assistance to participating dairy producers when the margin – the difference between the price of milk and feed costs – falls below the coverage level selected by the producer.

MPP-Dairy gives participating dairy producers the flexibility to select coverage levels best suited for their operation. Enrollment ends on Dec. 15, 2017, for coverage in calendar year 2018. Participating farmers will remain in the program through Dec. 31, 2018, and pay a minimum $100 administrative fee for 2018 coverage. Producers have the option of selecting a different coverage level from the previous coverage year during open enrollment.

USDA has a web tool to help producers determine the level of coverage is available at www.fsa.usda.gov/mpptool.
