A tribute to the organic architectural style of Frank Lloyd Wright, Falling Rock sits on the 18th green of Mystic Rock, a PGA-tour- tested golf course. Guests of Falling Rock enjoy fine dining at Aqueous, Nemacolin’s AAA Four-Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Steakhouse. The stylish Amber Bar and the outdoor Sunset Terrace, overlook the hotel’s Infinity Pool. Areas surrounding the exclusive Infinity Pool were in need of complete demolition and repairs. Barriers in the existing waterproofing system failed to keep water from permeating between natural stone tiles and surfaces. The natural stone surrounding the pool and deck areas was failing after years of freezing and thawing. Unsightly and dangerous cracking stones called for expedient renovation as the Infinity Pool was to open for upcoming Memorial Day festivities just weeks away. Solution ARDEX Sales Professional Tim Aheimer met with Colucci Tile & Marble, Inc., owner, Carl Hilbert, to discuss options for this unique renovation. After a demolition of the entire pool area, new natural stone was to be installed. Decorative trenches were utilized to accommodate the need for waterproofing in some areas. ARDEX X 32™ MICROTEC ® Fiber Reinforced Rapid Setting Thin-to-Thick Bed Mortar and ARDEX AM 100™ Rapid Set Pre-Tile Smoothing and Ramping Mortar were used to allow same day grout installations. The Colucci crew used ARDEX X 32 to set tile with builds from 1/4” to 1” in one step, saving time and money. The result was a luxurious stone pool that allowed Nemacolin Woodlands Resort to open for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
