HST Synthetics Ltd. was established in 1970, by its founder Tom Tiler, as a manufacturer of solar blankets and winter covers for the growing swimming pool industry. As the industry changed and spas and hot tubs became a major part of the market mix, HST added a line of spa covers and became the premier producer of these products in Canada.

After more than 40 years, and now under second generation management with Julia Tiler as President, HST Synthetics has become a Canadian leader in the manufacturing and distribution of products to protect and enhance the enjoyment of swimming pools, spas/hot tubs and patios.

In keeping with our tradition of bringing you new and innovative products, we have introduced our new line of spa covers and spa jackets featuring NHL logos that will appeal to the hearts of hockey fans across the country. We are officially licensed suppliers and no other spa cover manufacturer can boast this product. With the addition of Winnipeg’s new franchise, this product expands opportunities even further in Canada. Classic Mesh:Many of our dealers have asked us for a cover built to compete in the lower end safety cover market. Classic mesh covers still have the precise fit and finish we are known for, but without the upgraded materials used in our other covers. Classic mesh is an entry level safety cover.

Dura-Mesh:Increased filament sizes and increased number of filaments used, means your Dura-Mesh cover is designed to outperform any other standard mesh cover on the market. By tightening the weave of the filaments and increasing the filament size itself, Dura-Mesh allows much less sand, silt and debris to pass through the cover, while still allowing for rain and melting snow to pass through. Providing 91% shade Dura-Mesh means a cleaner pool in the spring. By using thicker filaments in a denser weave, Dura-Mesh is designed for superior performance under harsh conditions. These instructions have been included in this guidebook to help you price a safety cover yourself. It is only meant as a guide to help you get a rough idea of what a particular cover will cost. When quoting your customer a firm price, please fax Merlin for an exact quote from our Customer Service Department. Merlin will gladly quote any size or shape. For a firm quote please use our Professional Safety Cover Order Form.

All measurements 3” and higher are rounded up to the next foot for quoting purposes. Example: 16’3” is rounded to 17’, then add overlap for cover.

RectanglesUse Rectangular Pricing:Pools under 2000 sq. ft. are made with 4’-6’ spacing known as “5x5 spacing” and a 12” to 15” overlap. Pools over 2000 sq. ft. must be made with 3x3 spacing, which ranges approx. 2’-4’ and 18” overlap.Add 2 ft. to both the longest length and widest width of the pool when pricing.Example: A cover for this rectangle in Dura-Mesh with 5x5 spacing. 18’x37’ pool size equals 20’x39’ cover size, which equals 780 sq.ft.

True LUse Rectangular Pricing:Pools under 2000 sq. ft. are made with 4’-6’ spacing and a 12” to 15” overlap. Pools over 2000 sq.ft. must be made with 3x3 spacing, which ranges 2’-4’ and 18” overlap. Make two Rectangles from the True L. Add 2 ft. to the length and width of the larger rectangle and 2 feet to one side of the smaller rectangle when pricing. Example: A cover for this True L in Dura-Mesh with 5x5 spacing. 18’x36’ pool size equals 20’x38’ cover size which equals 760 sq.ft. 12’x10’ pool size equals 10’x14’ cover size which equals 140 sq.ft. Add both pools together: 760 + 140=900 sq.ft. x $1.74 =$1,566.00 retail price.

Kidneys, Freeforms, & Other Unusual ShapesUse Freeform Pricing:All kidneys and other freeform shapes are made with 3x3 spacing and 18” overlap only. Add 3’ to the longest length and widest width of the pool. Include all extensions in length and width measurements.Example: A cover for this kidney in Dura-Mesh with 3x3 spacing.18’x36’ pool size equals 21’x39’ cover size, which equals 819 sq. ft.819 sq. ft. x $2.56= $2,096.64 retail price.

Pool & Spa Combinations

Wedge Shape PoolsUse Rectangular Pricing:If the difference between the two end walls of the pool is less than 6 feet, use the larger end wall to figure your square footage like a normal rectangle. If the difference between the two end walls of the pool is greater than 6 feet, use the average of the two walls to figure your square footage.Example: A cover for this wedge shape pool in Dura-Mesh with 5x5 spacing and 12” overlap. 10+20=30 divide by 2 = 1515’x32’ pool size equals 17’x34’ cover size, which equals 578 sq. ft. 578 sq. ft. x $2.00= $1,156.00 + $270.00 (2 Full Length wedge cuts)=$1,426.00 retail price.

Lazy L3x3 Spacing: Create two rectangles within the lazy L shape as shown on the right. Add 2 ft. to the longest length and widest width of both rectangles. Add sq. ft. of each rectangle together for total square footage. Example: A cover for the lazy L at the right in Dura-Mesh with 3x3 spacing. Two rectangles or pool size 1’6x28’ and 16’x18’. Cover size equals 18’x30’ and 18’x20’ respectively. This totals 540 and 360 sq. ft. cover size, or 900 sq. ft. total cover size. Use 3x3 rectangle pricing. 900 sq. ft. x $2.16=$1,944.00 +$150 (lazy L charge) =$2,094.00 retail price.

5x5 spacing: Same as above, but use 5x5 rectangle pricing. Add $250 to total sq. ft. cost,900 sq. ft. x $1.74= $1,566.00 + $150 (lazy L charge) = $1,716.00 retail cost.

When pricing out pools with spas, if the pool cover is separate from the spa cover, then calculate the sq. ft. for each cover sepa-rately.

When pricing out pools with spas, if the pool cover will also cover the spa then include the spa in the square footage.

Intermittently sealed down the centre to prevent rolling. This tube has the benefits of a double tube with only one valve and chamber to fill.


Above Ground Winter Cover & Water Tubes

SMARTDRAIN eliminates water accumulation with a fine blue mesh screen that runs in a line down the centre of the cover. During winter, ice and snow weigh down the cover in the centre and when spring warmth melts the precipitation, the water simply filters into the pool through the mesh. As the water runs down into the pool, the cover slowly rises until it is stretched tightly across the pool. Winter debris such as leaves and dirt dry up and blow away.
