Falun/Salemsborg Lutheran Parish, ELCA Two congregations united in serving the Lord Jesus Christ for over 30 years Ethan A. Feistner, Pastor 3831 Salemsborg Rd. – Smolan, KS 67456 Phone (785)668-2522 May, 2016 Dear Falun-Salemsborg Parish Members; Summer is here and our days continue to be filled with activities. It is time for us to once again reflect on how much Pastor Ethan, Kellie and Alex do for our parish and our community. We would again like to show them our appreciation. As you may recall, we have been very successful in being able to show appreciation as a group twice a year. At Christmastime we have been able to provide the family with a cash gift and each summer we have provided the “Pastor’s Freezer Pool”. We hope to collect enough donations to fill their freezer with beef and frozen foods. For those who wish to contribute, please mail or hand cash to Doug or Jerrine by Sunday, May 29th. We con- tinue to appreciate the great generosity shown through this effort. We feel fortunate to be a part of such a great Parish family! The Parish Communicator

Once again the Holy Spirit led the youth affirming their baptism on April 17th. Below are the bible verses and paragraphs they wrote and read on April 17th. Please read them, post them on your refrigerator, they are powerful words and great witness. I am very proud of these youth and I know you are too!

Taylor Diane Barnes Baptized August 18, 2002

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm

you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I chose this verse because this reminds me that God is always with me and is always there for me no matter what. I know through this verse that God has a plan for me and will direct me in the right direction through life. I know that nothing that happens to you is a surprise to God. He has plans for you that were laid out before you ever opened your eyes for the first time on this earth. His plans are to bring good into your life and to guide you through any ob-stacle you encounter. His plans are a promise of hope that will lead you all the way to heaven and a future with him forever. Most importantly trusting him with all of your heart, even through the hard times. He is always there, always hears your prayers, and is always your biggest supporter. Trust him, love him and follow God because in the end he will always be there with you forever.

Parish Mission/Vision. Outreach is the broad focus with specific empha-

sis on Camp Tomah Shinga, Bethany College, Young Adults and following up with our visitors.

Gracelyn Louise Gaskill Baptized December 23, 2001

Psalm 57:7 “My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is

steadfast; I will sing and make music.”

When I started looking for my bible verse, I was looking for something that spoke to me. Something that would in-spire me to be a better Christian and help others. Some-thing that, when I was feeling down, would bring me back up. I picked my verse because it does just that. There are two reasons I picked this verse: first, my ability to make music is my life and my God-given talent. Making music is my passion, and being reminded of that can inspire me to do many things. Second, sometimes I find it hard to trust anyone. When I can’t trust others, this verse will tell me that I can always trust God. This verse can remind me that I should be firm in my faith. Even though my certainty in peo-ple may waver, I can look at this verse and be reminded that my belief in God can help me overcome any obstacle life throws at me.

Gavin John Zimmerman Baptized November 4, 2001

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to

give you a future and a hope.”

What this Bible verse means to me is that God has a plan for everyone, even if you don’t see it yet. The plan that he has for you (or in this case me) is a plan not for evil, but for good. Knowing our God (a God of compassion and mercy), this isn’t surprising. It also means that since you don’t know what’s in store for you, and you don’t know when it will happen, so it gives you hope for the future. Therefore, no matter what happens in life, it is God’s plan. God has his reasons for everything that happens. No mat-ter what happens, God is in control. All we have to do is put our trust in him. How this relates to my life would be that my family and I are moving to Kansas City. The future is uncertain, except for one thing. God. He will always be with me to give me strength in the unsettled future.

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still”

Exodus 14:14

I believe that this verse is God’s way of telling me to cast my anxiety to the side and take a deep breath. See sometimes I think we as humans forget to take a deep breath. The first time I realized that I had purpose was in the middle of an anxiety attack. I don’t know why it hap-pened but in that moment I suddenly realized how I had been cheating myself out of life. I had lived my life thinking I was just average. I got average grades. I was an average athlete. I had an average voice and I was an average girl living in the shadows of my potential. I started to realize that I wasn’t average. I started to realize that I had galaxies in my mind and universes in my veins. I started to realize that if I had just cleaned off my dusty heart every once in a while I was actually capable of loving the things I do. I started to realize that the odd curl of my hair was beautiful. I started to realize that the freckles in my eyes were almost like constellations. But most of all I started to love myself, because God created me just like an artist would paint a picture. I’m not worthless, I am priceless. So please re-member, the Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still.
