WINTER SPORTS REGISTRATIONWinter Sports Registration will be online starting August 21, 2018 @ 9am and will close on
September 11, 2018 @ 11:59 pm.
This will be registration for Ringette (5 to 17 years old) and Indoor Soccer (4 to 8 years old, 9 to 18 years old and adults 35+).
Please go to our website at www.gatewayrec.com to register. Hockey Registration is done through River East Minor Hockey Association at www.remha.ca.
We no longer take Basketball registrations.

RICHMOND GATEWAY CHRISTMAS HOCKEY CLASSIC
Each year Gateway and Richmond Kings CC (now South Winnipeg CC) organize a Christmas hockey tournament. This year it will be held
December 21st to 30th. The tournament is for both male and female hockey teams from 8 to 15 years old. We have categories for A1, A2 and A3 teams. SOCIAL HALL RENTALS
Gateway’s social hall is located on the second floor of the administration building. It can be rented for socials, weddings, fundraisers, birthday parties, family dinners etc. It is ideal for groups up to 295. Rental includes: set up of tables and chairs in your preferred arrangement, corkage and ice, coffee maker and 2 bartenders. Socials also include 2 security guards. For rental information contact Sandra at [email protected] or by phone at 204-982-1231. The social hall has wheelchair access, ample parking, a raised stage and a kitchen. The hall is also available weekdays day time and evenings.
CANTEEN HOURS AND OFFERINGS
The canteen offers many different foods daily including but not limited to: french fries, burgers, hotdogs, chicken fingers, perogies, assortment of cold and hot drinks, mini donuts, candies and bars, and all day breakfast.
Canteen hours are Monday-Friday from 5:00pm - 9:00pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 am - 10:00 pm.
Times will vary depending on facility usage.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Coaches and volunteers are always needed at Gateway. If you are interested in coaching hockey, indoor soccer or ringette contact Sherri at (204)982-1234 extension #2 or [email protected].

We are looking for a few people to assist us in running our special events such as craft sales, summer and winter carnivals, etc..

ADVERTISING!
Each year over 1,000,000 people from all over River East, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and the United States come through Gateway’s doors providing many opportunities for companies to advertise their products and services at the Centre. You can choose from a 4 x 8 wall board, a rink board or an ice logo. Advertising can be done in our arenas and/or our indoor soccer pitch. ICE AND SOCCER PITCH RENTALS AVAILABLE
Did you know that we have special rates for non prime time ice and soccer pitch rentals? Ice is reduced for daytime and late evening. The indoor soccer pitch has reduced rates from Monday to Friday. DID YOU KNOW?
Gateway Recreation Centre has a registration refund policy – this means we pay our volunteers and coaches back! The sports registration refund applies to Gateway approved special events and coaching opportunities.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
This includes carnivals as well as any other events Gateway Recreation Centre is hosting or organizing.
In general, the volunteer requirement is 4 hours per child per sport season and is based on a first come first served. Special events do not include the Winter Carnival sale of 50/50’s.
COACHING:
This refund applies to a parent/guardian of a Gateway Recreation Centre registered child participating on a Gateway Recreation Centre team or affiliated team. (i.e., REMHA A hockey, RERA teams).
A maximum of 3 coaches per team in the sport of hockey and ringette are eligible for the registration refund.
All other sports will have a maximum of 2 coaches per team.

FACILITY UPDATES
Our 2700 square foot maintenance shop has now been completed. The maintenance shop is attached to the indoor rinks and can now house all of our summer and winter outdoor field equipment. It also allows us to perform work on machinery inside in a warm environment which will help lengthen the life of our Zamboni’s, tractor, riding lawnmowers, field equipment, etc. A big Thank you to the Canada 150 Winnipeg Infrastructure, The City of Winnipeg Community Incentive Grant and the Province of Manitoba Community Places Program for the financial assistance that allow us to complete this project.
With the assistance of our area Councillor Jeff Browaty, Gateway Recreation Centre has been able to secure funding from the City of Winnipeg to cover 50% of the cost for an Outdoor Digital Message Centre. The message centre will replace our present sign near the entrance of the parking lot. The message centre should be up in early fall. All messaging will be done thru the Administration Offices which will allow Gateway to better advertise its programs and activities to the community.
We will be replacing the Indoor Soccer Turf this upcoming September with a multi-purpose indoor turf. The new turf will allow us to continue offering our Adults
and Mini/Micro soccer players a place to play in a clean and safe environment. There are many user groups that make use of the soccer pitch. The indoor pitch not only provide a practice facility for the Phoenix Soccer Club to run their academy between October and March but is also a host site for the Winnipeg Recreation League soccer program, the Red River Valley Sports League Baseball tryouts, various provincial and regional lacrosse and field hockey groups, lawn bowlers, etc.
UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS
Our yearly Winter Craft and Vendors Sale will be held in the indoor soccer pitch on Saturday, November 3rd from 9 am to 3 pm. There is room for over 70 tables. If you are interested in obtaining a table, please e-mail us at [email protected].
Skate with Santa will be happening on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 from 9 am to 11:30 am. There will be crafts, colouring, cookie decorating, igloo making, pictures and of course skating with Santa. Do not miss the fun!
Our Winter Carnival House League Hockey Tournament will be held from Tuesday, February 5th to Sunday, February 10th, 2018. The Carnival activities will be held Saturday, February 9th, 2018.

MICRO & MINI SOCCER
We had a very successful outdoor season this year. We had 18 teams in total! We had teams in the following age groups: U4-U6, U7 as well as U8. The Micro teams had extra fun playing games on carnival saturday, along with enjoying the great activities. The U7 & U8 teams participated in the annual jamboree hosted by Phoenix and all had a successful day. Thank you to all of the coaches for their dedication and time to make sure the players outdoor season was a success!
YOUTH SOCCER
Gateway fielded six U9-U12 girls and boys teams this outdoor season. Games were fun and the season wrapped up with a WYSA jamboree weekend. The U13 and up ages continue play in the fall and will wrap up with playoffs. Thank you to all coaches for volunteering their time to these teams.
FALL CRAFT SALE
The month of May was a busy one for us at Gateway Rec Centre! On Saturday May 5, 2018, we held a
Mother’s Day Spring Craft Sale with over 35 vendors in attendance. Our upcoming Fall Craft Sale is being held on November 3, 2018.

SUMMER CARNIVAL
Our annual Summer Carnival was held on Saturday May 26, 2018. The day was filled with activities such as face painting, a petting zoo, and several bouncy castles! The weather was perfect for the first day of the splash pad being open and we had Aime’s Music Services DJing the entire day – they even had dance competitions and prizes for those with the best moves. This year we had a “touch-a-truck” activity where local authorities and businesses provided a work vehicle for kids and families to view the machines up close. There were free popsicles, a candy scramble, cotton candy, snow cones, and a photo booth for participants to have a souvenir photo to take home.
