What Graduates Say From the Program Director

“Our fellowship is tailored towards that applicant who is very passionate about women’s health. The fellowship includes faculty development, research, resident and medical student teaching, and diverse exposure to many subspecialties and collaborative teams. Our patient population is mostly underserved and highly family centered. The fellowship is very busy, but we make time to have fun, in an environment that thrives on care, friendship and highly dedicated faculty. Come check us out!”

“What attracted me here was how dynamic the program is and how diverse the year was going to be. They were receptive to what I was after and able to tailor the program around what I wanted to accomplish. I was able to practice women’s health, and obstetrics, but also family medicine. I like how the fellowship incorporates hours each week at the urgent care clinic so you can keep up on family medicine skills. And I like that the program is not set in stone – it’s not a one track program. Plus, there’s a lot opportunity for procedural skill training. The academic side and the teaching is great – not a lot of fellowships are as integrated with a residency as this fellowship is with the Family Medicine Residency Program. The fellowship also is a small program so you get a lot of one-on-one time with faculty.”

-Sarah Ramirez, MDClass of 2015UICOMP Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship

“I was first drawn to the program by a force — and that force is Dr. Na’Allah. Because of her, I graduated with both a power-ful mentor and a great friend, yet my own success extended beyond Dr. Na’Allah alone. The fellowship provided the ideal learning environment for me to excel. I was surrounded by a wonderful group of people, who while constantly challenging me and pushing me past my comfort zones, were incredibly supportive, enthusiastic and fun. I was grateful to work with a diverse group of physicians and nurse midwives who offered experience and guidance in everything from traditional family medicine to obstetrics and gynecology. They were all eager to provide me with their knowledge as I worked toward becom-ing a more well-rounded physician. They were great teach-ers — and great people. I loved the flexibility of the program, too. Because the year was organized into 4 week rotations, it allowed me to shape my experiences to meet my own distinct goals. I can truly say that with this fellowship program, I con-siderably expanded my experience and knowledge through all aspects of women’s health, especially surgical obstetrics.”
