PGY1

• Core Community Family Medicine clinic 2 days weekly (average) for entire year promotes continuity of patient care

• Protected academic teaching time every Wednesday afternoon

• Family Medicine inpatient and on-call at Belleville General Hospital

• Horizontal experiences:• Pediatric clinics and on-call• Obstetrics and Gynecology clinics and on-call• Lumps, bumps and minor procedure clinics• Emergency Medicine in a variety of settings• Options in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Respirology, Nephrology • Allied health providers in FHT, CCAC and Public Health• Behavioural Medicine in a community oce setting• Hospitalist (Family Physician-led)• Palliative Care in hospital, oce, and home

• Four weeks of Internal Medicine (may select two extra FM Hosp)

• Four weeks of Electives

PGY2

• On average, two days/week of Family Medicine in a dierent familymedicine community practice to broaden your experience

• Eight weeks of Rural/Community Family Medicine in sites such as Picton, Bancroft, or any other Queen’s approved sites

• Four weeks of Electives

• Horizontal experiences continue throughout both years

• Integration of competency-based assessment to fine-tune your learning needs

At the Queen’s Department of Family Medicine, we strive to ensure that your learning scheduleworks for you. We will work with you to determinea schedule that meets your educational needs and accommodates your personal life. Further, you will be provided with an education allowance that can be used for conferences, courses and/oreducational materials.

Living in the Belleville-Quinte Region

Belleville, on the Bay of Quinte, is known as “The Friendly City.” It offers big-city amenities with small-town charm. The city’s waterfront is very active and includes an updated trail system,the annual May fishing weekend, a July WaterfrontFestival, and tremendous opportunities for boatersand sailors. A downtown Farmers’ Market brings field-to-table mere steps from the teaching sites and several residents participate in local CSA boxes.

Bellevillians are passionate about hockey, fillinglocal rinks in the winter months.

A newly refurbished sports centre boasts two icepads and updated pools, fitness and track facilities.Belleville features some of the best golf in Ontariowith nineteen courses in the area and severallocated right in the city. Arts and culture are well-represented by a monthly repertory film club,an annual documentary film fest, local theatre, asymphony, and an endless array of outdoor festivals.

Just twenty minutes south of Belleville is popularPrince Edward County – a.k.a. “The County”. Hereyou can swim or camp at world-renowned SandbanksProvincial Park, one of the most beautiful stretchesof long, sandy beach in the beach in the province.The County is known as a local wine-growing

region and is popular for agritourism, studio tours,a taste tour, a new Barn Quilt Trail, and more theatreand music than you could ever fill a summer with.The area features Lake on the Mountain, a stunningnatural lake 200 feet above the Bay of Quinte withno rivers flowing in or out of its waters. The quaintvillages of Bloomfield, Wellington, and larger Picton all offer unique dining, arts and shoppingopportunities.

Belleville has a diverse economy, with majoremployers offering a wide variety of employmentopportunities. Our city offers fabulous restaurantsas well as shopping in our quaint, historic downtown,the Quinte Mall and big-box retail – something foreveryone. Daily VIA Rail service, with many stopsper day, can get you anywhere you might need togo along the Windsor-Quebec City corridor.

Loyalist College provides a great opportunity for lifelong learning, skill development, and thepursuit of hobbies and cultural experiences. Theelementary and secondary school options includepublic, separate, and private schools in the city.

Train at Queen’s, Work Anywhere!

The Queen’s Family Medicine Residency is atthe forefront of medical education in Canada.Our goal is to prepare you to become a capableand confident Family Physician with the skillsto practice Family Medicine anywhere in theworld.

Our curriculum is based on the CFPC “Triple C” Curriculum Model (Comprehensivelearning, Continuity of learning, supervision,and patient care, and learning that is Centredin Family Medicine.

In the Spring of 2018, the CFPC conferred full accreditation status on all of our Family Medicine programs. In 2012 and 2016, the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO) presented the Department of Family Medicine with its Residency Program Excellence Award, nominated by residents and given yearly to one Royal College or Family Medicine program. Our graduates can be found working across Canada and throughout the world in many different settings.
