MISSIONARY: JENNY JENKINS , COMMISSIONED: 2010 LOCATION: HAITI

“God has blessed me to live and work among an amazing group of people in Grand Goave, Haiti. The Haitian people are strong and resilient. They have survived through many catastrophes and disasters—political, natural and man-made. Our prayers center on these people and their faces.”

Jenkins uses her medical experience to serve the people of Haiti, working to improve the continuity of health care.

“Since the earthquake my focus has become clearer,” Jenkins said. “There is a great need for follow up care with infections, wound care, physical therapy and the rebuilding of lives. It's an opportunity to be Christ to a people who

are desperately seeking a safe refuge. In the past, health care was always disjointed at best, and now that the major crisis has passed it becomes the slow painful process of rebuilding. We as Christians have an opening to be Christ to these people as never before.”

MISSIONARIES: ANGEL & JASON PITTMAN, COMMISSIONED: 2002 LOCATION: MIAMI, FL Angel and Jason Pittman serve as directors of Touching Miami with Love (TML), a ministry of the Fellowship and CBF of Florida, located in the Overtown neighborhood of Miami, one the poorest communities in the state. TML follows Jesus’ example of ministry to the poor, reaching out to children, youth, families, and people who are homeless by providing a variety of services – summer camps, after school programs, a Christmas store, tax services and assistance finding jobs, housing and social services. “The folks that we work with and have the privilege of be-ing in relationship with are the inner city poor,” said Jason. “They are folks that have been forgotten, have been looked over and have struggled for many years.

MISSIONARIES: BLAKE AND LAURA BETH COMER LOCATION: GREENPOINT, BROOKLY, NEW YORK

Blake and Laura Beth Comer moved to Brooklyn from South Carolina in December of 2015. Blake is part Tar Heel, though, because he lived in North Carolina during some of his growing up years.

During the first few months of 2016, they found an apartment in which to live and got their two young children enrolled in school. It was a big adjustment: From South Carolina to New York!

By the end of 2016, the Comers were beginning to invite people into their homes for brunch or cookouts, so they can get to know neighbors, share faith and get Bible studies started. Our church is helping Blake and Laura Beth serve in Brooklyn through our Cooperative Program giving.

More than 40,000 people live in Greenpoint, but there are only a few evangelical churches. Strong Bible-teaching churches are greatly needed. Many people in Greenpoint are of Polish background; there are many stores and restaurants where Polish is spoken. Blake and Laura Beth have found a great little donut shop they stop by once a week to meet people, again to share their faith.

Today, let’s pray the Lord will bless their ministry and help them get a strong and growing new church planted very soon!

MISSIONARIES: PHIL AND DONYA KESLER LOCATION: BRAZIL

Phil teaches many churches about the Bible and about how to share their faith. When Phil and Donya Kesler started language school in Campinas, Brazil, in the late 1990s, neither knew a word of Portuguese.

Today, Phil Kesler takes Brazilian believers with him when he shares the Gospel, in a strategy called Churches Multiplying Churches (Igrejas Multiplicando Igrejas). They learn from him and gradually take the lead. Meanwhile, Phil mentors other leaders, resulting in a continual multiplication of the number of people spreading the Gospel and training others to do the same.

That is what happened when Kesler's four children – Bethany, Anna, Carlos and Aline – started accompanying Phil and his wife Donya on church-planting endeavors. They learned from them, joined in the efforts, then gradually took a

lead in accompanying and encouraging others to share the Gospel.

Phil's travel throughout the country as an ethnic ministries coordinator in conjunction with the Brazilian Home Mission Board often takes him away from home, which can be hard on the family. But Donya says the family knows they are doing exactly what they've been called to do.

"I know that ... no matter how tough it has gotten at times, I have never wanted to be anywhere else but where God put me," Donya says.

Habitat Lunches 2017 Ministry Needs Your Help

Lunches for Habitat for Humanity Workers—Several Months still available

FBC has committed to providing the Habitat for Humanity workers with lunch on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The Mission Council is asking Sunday school classes to take one month and prepare these lunches on that Tuesday.

The Mission Council members make these lunches when no one else volunteers. The lunch typically consists of 25-30 meat sandwiches, bags of chips, cookies (homemade or store bought), fruit, 2-3 gallons of tea and paper products (plates, cups, and napkins).

If your class is unable to prepare a lunch, then a monetary donation is greatly appreciated. Cost for the lunch can run between $60-65. (For those of you that have already made a donation, thank you.)

Lunches are delivered to the Habitat store on Hwy 70 near the Flea Market around 10:30am on the fourth Tuesday of each month. If your class is able to prepare the lunch but can’t deliver it, then the Mission Council has someone who will deliver it.

For further information, or if you can help prepare or deliver the meal, please contact Lois Parker at 726-5678.

There are few, if any, experiences as exciting as the day your child first enters this world or the day that you get the call that the child you have been waiting to adopt is finally available. There is no gift that can ever match that tremendous gift from God! We hold our new baby in our arms and a thousand thoughts begin rushing through our minds. What will he/she want to be when he/she becomes an adult? What will he/she look like? What will his/her talents be? Who does the baby look like? Won’t we have a good time playing together as the years go by? Where will the child want to go to school? The list goes on and on. We begin thinking of all of the things that we want to give to our child throughout his/her life. Will we be able to afford all that we want to give to him/her? However, the most important thing that we can give to our children is the gift of FAITH. We must teach them about God through teaching and by example. Our children will learn very quickly if God is important in our own lives by observing our actions. The saying that “actions speak louder than words” is very true! Do they see us reading our Bible? Do we pray with them? There is not one of us that will not face difficult times in our lives. It may be today, it may be next week, or it may be years from now. But, we will face difficult times! Knowing that God is with us and carrying us through the valleys of our lives is such a comfort. We are never by ourselves. Don’t we want our children to know the comfort and peace that we have when we know that God is there with us? We must equip our children with the necessary tools to survive in the world. The most important tool for them to have is faith in our Lord and Jesus Christ. We can lose material items but our faith can never be taken from us. Isn’t that a wonderful gift to give to our children? Vacation Bible School is one way we can teach our children about God. One week in VBS is the same as attending Sunday School for four months without ever missing a Sunday! Our children are the future of the world. The type of adults they will become will depend upon what they are taught as children – both through direct teaching and by example. We, as Christians, have a responsibility to teach children everywhere about the love of Jesus and to give them hope. Vacation Bible School is one way to do this. Our theme this year is “Galactic Starveyors: Discovering the God of the Universe”. As Galactic Starveyors, children will search the skies and God’s word to uncover God’s truth etched in His handiwork. They will discover that the God who created everything

that there is wants a relationship with them! From the very beginning, God had a plan to restore the relationship He knew we would break. God sent His son, Jesus, to be our Savior and His Holy Spirit to be our Helper. From the very beginning to the furthest reaches of space (and beyond), NOTHING is outside of God’s control or beyond His grasp. God loves us and will never leave us! During the week, we will learn how:

1) the Relationship began 2) the Relationship was broken 3) the Restoration was Promised 4) the Relationship was restored 5) the Relationship continues.

Our mission outreach this year is Family Promise. Each VBS Department will visit the mission, learn about what the mission does, and deliver much needed items that have been brought from home. All of our offering collected during VBS will be given to Family Promise. The children will learn that they can be missionaries right here in Carteret County. Our VBS IS making a difference in our community!

It is NOT too late to volunteer! No experience is necessary! Please pray for God’s guidance as to how He would use

YOU in VBS!

“I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard My people cry. All who dwell in deepest sin My hand will save.

I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them, Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, if You lead me. I will hold your people in my heart!”

(Daniel L. Schutte; based on Isaiah 6:8) Please keep our VBS in your prayers! We have many workers preparing Bible stories, crafts, music, and snacks to get ready for this most important week! Make it a priority in your summer schedule to have your child in

VBS! It will be one of the greatest gifts you can give to your child!

Make it a priority in your summer schedule to HELP in VBS! It will be one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself!

This letter is to thank everyone that took time to call and offer condolence, prayer, and help offered anywhere it was needed. It is nice to know my Church home is truly a part of my family's life. Not only was it nice to get a call from both Nate and Darrell as well as other people in

our church, but even Miss Deb contacted our kids to see how they are doing. Diane and several people from our Choir and our Sunday class sent uplifting messages, cards and a nice call to say we are with you through this.

Thanks to all the love shown in a difficult time, Minor, Heidi, Grace, and Luke Smith
