OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CATHOLIC PARISH
Family Faith Sunday
When you are disappointed, sad, confused…when you struggle, you need to go to those
who can be a light for you.
We can go to those who love us, here on earth and in heaven. Sometimes we forget about
the community of those in heaven. Can you think of anyone who loves you who is in
heaven? Anyone who wants the best for you who is in heaven?
The saints, including our Mother Mary, experienced struggles as you and I today. We often
forget that Jesus also experienced hurts, difficulty, fear, sadness and struggle, as well as
excitement, joy and laughter with friends; He understands all the things that normal people
experience.
If you went to VBC-Vacation Bible Camp, you know that When you struggle, Jesus rescues!
If you did not go to VBC, please ask someone who went and learn about their experience.
When you struggle go to Jesus and talk to Him about your needs, concerns and thoughts.
You can use your own words; Jesus loves you and hears you. He wants the best for you and
He will provide what is necessary.
Jesus never lets go of you. Listen to this song HERE
When you struggle…
Who do you think of?
Who do you go to? What do you say?
Dear Jesus: You had to remind people to pray always and not lose hope when they struggled. I need to hear that too. Please, help me to listen, help me to pray, help me
to share my daily life with you. Jesus, thank you for loving me so much. Amen.
You can say this prayer with the family:
“My son asked us to pray
together as a family for all the
children who do not have
shoes, and it was so gratifying
to see his faith grow” (Parent)
“To see so many young kids
volunteering their time during the
summer was impressive. Our young
people are inspiring!” (Volunteer)
Are you wondering about
how VBC went?
Let’s hear from those who
participated!
Throughout our week on our deserted island together, we learned that Jesus rescues
when we are lonely, worried, when we struggle, when we do wrong and when we feel
powerless!
Also, we learned about our brothers and sisters who do not have good foot
protection and as a result, can be more susceptible injury and illness. Campers
raised enough money to purchase close to 100 pairs of shoes to send to parts
of the world through Because International.
Our week together allowed Jesus’ loving care to reach each participant, touching lives
and changing hearts, while having an amazing time! More information
If you would like to share your experience, have questions or would like to
volunteer, please contact us here!
“This is great. I’ll invite other
friends next year” (young
volunteer)

Do you know who Saint Eugene De Mazenod is?
Did you know that one of the rooms we have at the Parish is named after him?
Let’s learn be inspired by his example!
Saint Eugene was born into a rich family, but at age six, he lost everything. Due to the French Revolution, his family had to escape their home country, leaving behind all their possessions. The Mazenod family, political refugees, lived in unstable conditions, moving from place to place throughout Italy. At the age of 20, Eugene was able to return to his homeland, but France was a changed world, his parents had separated, his mother was fighting to get back the family possessions. He sank into depression. However, he discovered a calling to the priesthood, Eugene entered the seminary, and on December 21, 1811, he was ordained a priest in Amiens.
Eugene exercised his priesthood in the care of the truly spiritually needy-prisoners, youth, servants, country
villagers. After much work, he founded a new Congregation, the "Oblates of Mary Immaculate." primarily to serve the spiritually needy and deprived of the French countryside.
His congregation has grown to become one of the largest in the Church,
He knows the joys and difficulties of family life; he experienced the love of his parents as well as depression after their separation.
He experienced the change of homes, countries and social status.
He learned that riches and pleasure are not of eternal value. He discerned God’s plan in the midst of various challenges. And he intercedes for us now!
Saint Eugene, Pray for Us!
Can you think of anyone in your heart who may need your
prayer to Saint Eugene?
Can you pray together as a family so he intercedes for
this?
Do you know anyone who can use this information and
inspiration? Charity is the pivotal point on which
our whole existence revolves.
-St. Eugene de Mazenod
How can we imitate Saint Eugene as a family?
How can we become saints?
Dedicate some time to discuss this with the family and then, come up with two things everyone can do this month toward becoming a saint and being closer to God.

Make a kaleidoscope!
A Kaleidoscope a toy consisting of a tube containing
mirrors and pieces of colored glass or paper, whose
reflections produce changing patterns that are
visible through an eyehole when the tube is rotated.
This can be made with any pieces, found objects and
items you do have at home. It is fun to do if it
happens to rain, or even if you want something
different to do with your kids!
Here is a fun guide to show you how to make one!
