MedicinalPlants-TraditionalKnowledgeandHealthcarePracticesofRuralCommunitiesinNorthEasternStatesofIndia

A simple approach based on Participaroty Learning Environment (PLE) was employed by the partner
organisationswhileworking on the traditionalmedicinal plants. Thewhole processwas underlined by the
principleof-“forthepeopleandbythepeople”.Thecommunitywasinitiallyapproachedwiththeideaofsharing
the importanceofupkeepof theknowledgeon traditionalmedicinalplants. This approachmainly included
identiicationofherbalmedicinalpractitioners.Thisidentiicationwasdonethroughaseriesofinteractionswith
the communities. The identiication was followed by gathering testimonies from the patients who the
practitioners have claimed to have treated. Such testimonies helped to authenticate the genuineness of the
practitioners.Havingidentiiedthepractitioners,awarenesswascreatedamongthecommunitiestobringback
theuniquepractices.Specialemphasiswasgiventothechildren,youthandwomenamongthecommunitiesand
theresultsareindicativeofthesame.

A simple approach based on Participaroty Learning Environment (PLE) was employed by the partner
organisationswhileworking on the traditionalmedicinal plants. Thewhole processwas underlined by the
principleof-“forthepeopleandbythepeople”.Thecommunitywasinitiallyapproachedwiththeideaofsharing
the importanceofupkeepof theknowledgeon traditionalmedicinalplants. This approachmainly included
identiicationofherbalmedicinalpractitioners.Thisidentiicationwasdonethroughaseriesofinteractionswith
the communities. The identiication was followed by gathering testimonies from the patients who the
practitioners have claimed to have treated. Such testimonies helped to authenticate the genuineness of the
practitioners.Havingidentiiedthepractitioners,awarenesswascreatedamongthecommunitiestobringback
theuniquepractices.Specialemphasiswasgiventothechildren,youthandwomenamongthecommunitiesand
theresultsareindicativeofthesame.
