The countryside consists of rolling plains, low hill ranges and a fertile coastline. Of the 1.6 million inhabitants, approx 1 million live in and around the capital, Montevideo. Agriculture and the agri-industry account for 70% of the total exports and 84% of the land is used for agriculture. By comparison Argentina is a huge country - 1,438 kms at its widest point east to west and 3,800 kms north to south with a population of 36 million - of which 11 million live in the capital Buenos Aires. Argentina shares its borders with Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile. Geographically the country has much to offer - the mighty Andes, with many active volcanoes, the dry sierras where wines are produced, the fertile central flat land known as the pampas, and Tierra del Fuego in the south with glaciers and mountains. The tour we offer will be full of contrasts and we aim to show you a range of farming practices with livestock and crops, whilst travelling through the countryside. Meet the country people on small farms and large ranches, stay in the best local small town hotels, excellent estancias, posadas or fincas (large farm houses with all facilities) and one or two large city hotels. En route you will experience some tourist highlights in both countries including Buenos Aries and the famous Argentine Tango! Enjoy the local food with beef steaks, local fish and bbq’s plus fresh fruits and wines. Note also that your fellow travellers will have the same interests farming and the countryside.
