Dialoguewith CEOOn these blessed days, I would like to congratulate you on the advent
of Eid Al-Adha, entreating Allah, the Almighty, to bring it back with
prosperity. On this occasion, I beseech Allah to accept our good deeds
and help us keep the journey of development and construction in
progress for the oil sector. This journey is definitely aimed to boost
the international status of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation among the
international oil companies.
In this context, KPC has recently witnessed launching a number of
significant activities that are aimed to highlight this status and fortify
the customers’ trust in its ability to meet its obligations. On top of
these activities was to deliver the first cargo of Kuwaiti oil donations
to Japan among the initiative hurled by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah
Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who ordered 5 million barrels of Kuwait’s
crude oil to the Japanese nation to help it recover and surmount
the environment calamity yielded from the earthquake and tsunami
waves.
The Amir’s initiative reflects the humanitarian sensitivity of the
Kuwaiti government and nation that extends not only to the sisterly
and friendly countries during catastrophes and hard times, but it
extends also to reach several countries all over the world particularly
the poor ones to help them achieve development.
These activities include also a visit paid by Bangladesh Petroleum
Corporation to KPC to recognize the latter’s latest administrative and
technical schemes approved in this domain. This however confirms
that KPC has an international status; accordingly, the visiting
delegation was keen on benefiting from the Kuwaiti experience in
the oil industry that has been established on the shoulders of efficient
personnel who have sturdy belief in Allah, the Almighty; therefore,
they devotedly accomplish their duties to achieve more progress and
prosperity for our beloved Kuwait.

the project’s recommendations which
are aimed at reinforcing communica-
tion, the concept of transparency in
addition to increasing awareness about
the Human Resources (HR) policies

Pursuant to comprehensive study and
questionnaire conducted on the level
of the oil sector, the committee has
stressed the importance of improving
performance, addressing the weakness
of the career link in the oil sector. This
however is to be carried out by focus-
ing on the following three key pivots:
 Career advancement opportunities
(career path and promotion scale).
 Improving communication among all
administrative levels.
Sharing HR policies and other rel-
evant administrative procedures.
Accordingly, the team has recently
launched and improved SMS system

Hajj is a sublime rite, a system of
worship on its own and a call
by Allah, the Almighty, to His
Muslim people who seek to
forsake their sins. Hajj is an
international Islamic union
located on common land
under one sky to perform
prayer to the only God whom
al entreat His forgiveness and
mercy.
It is a chance to purify the heart
from sins, heal the soul from
spiritual sickness and renew the
covenant with Allah, the Almighty,
to follow the path of obedience and
commitment. Hajj is one of religious
activities in which unity and soli-
darity are revealed among Muslim
people. Moreover, cohesion and col-
laboration are shown since faith is the
only criterion differentiates among
Muslims not money, race or origin.
Hajj importance
Pilgrimage or hajj is the
fifth pillar of Is-
I n T h i s I s s u e
lam. It is a divine concept; accord-
ingly, those who deny this pillar are
considered infidels. Allah, the Al-
mighty, says in His holy book that
hajj is obligatory for Muslim people
who are wise, adult and can afford
the cost of the journey. The prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) said in his “ha-
dith” – speech – that Islam is based
on five pillars:
To testify that there is no god but Al-
lah and Muhammad is his prophet.
To perform prayers.
To give Alms or Al-Zakat.
To fast the holy month of Ramadan.
To perform hajj; yet, this pillar is
obligatory for the Muslim peo-
ple who meet the aforesaid
conditions.
Accelerate perform-
ing hajj
Many of the proph-
et’s hadiths were
mentioned to insti-
gate Muslims to accelerate perform-
ing hajj. However, these hadiths
warn at the same time from lag-
ging the performance of this
obligation. Bin Abbas, may
Allah be pleased with him,
said that the prophet (PBUH)
said, “Hasten performing
hajj as none of you knows
what may descend expectedly
upon him. Also, the prophet
was quoted as saying that the
one who wanted to perform hajj
should hurry performing it as one
can become ill, things may get lost.
Abu Saeed Al-Khodari, one of the
prophet’s followers, said the prophet
said, “Allah says that a Muslim per-
son who has good health and gener-
ous life and stays in these lucrative
conditions without performing hajj is
deprived of great good.”
Superiority of hajj
Abu Horaira, one of the prophet’s fol-
lowers, said the prophet (PBUH) said
three Muslim people are protected by
Allah, the Almighty; a Muslim person
walks for one of Allah’s mosques, a
Muslim goes to conquer for the sake
of Allah and a Muslim leaves for per-
forming hajj. Ibn Masoud said the
prophet (PBUH) said, “Perform hajj
and Omrah – minor hajj – alternately
because they protect Muslim from
poverty and sins exactly as bellows
remove tailings of iron, silver and
gold. In addition, the paradise is the
award of the blessed hajj.
Furthermore, Abu Horaira said, “I
heard the prophet saying that the
The sacred call of hajj to be hurled in few days

11
Muslim who performs hajj without
committing obscenity or wickedness
returns from hajj without any sins as
if he is newborn.
Conditions of performing hajj
The person must be Muslim and
sane. It is obligatory condition.
He should be free and adult.
He should be able to afford the cost
and burden of the journey financially
and physically. There should not be
any impediment hinders the journey.
If the pilgrim is woman, she must
be accompanied by unmarriageable
person.
Kinds of hajj’s rites
There are three kinds of hajj:
Karin: It is meant that the pilgrim
intends to perform Omrah and hajj
at the same time. When the pilgrim
reaches Mecca and circumambulates
the Kaaba, he keeps “Ihram” until
finishing the rites of hajj and Omrah.
Motamate’: It is meant that the pil-
grim intends to perform Omrah dur-
ing the months of hajj provided hajj
should be performed in the same year.
In this case, the pilgrim has to call the
slogan “I am here! At your service”
during the months of hajj for per-
forming Omrah provided the pilgrim
has to perform it in the same year.
when he finishes performing Om-
rah, the pilgrim can get his hair cut,
dressed in clothes and he is accessed
to all things which were banned dur-
ing “Ihram”. On “Tarwiyah Day” –
the 8th day of Thul Hejja month – the
pilgrim should start performing the
rites of hajj. Thus, if he commenced
“Ihram” in Ramadan for Omrah from
“Meqat” – a place from where the
pilgrim starts his Ihram – and com-
pleted its rites in Shawal, he is not
then considered “Motamate’ because
it is stipulated to be dressed in Ihram
for Omrah during the months of hajj.
Mofrad: It is meant that the pilgrim
intends to perform hajj only at Meqat
and he keeps dressed in Ihram until
he finishes the rites of hajj.
Aishya, Mother of Faith may Allah be
pleased with her, was quoted as say-
ing, “We accompanied our prophet
(PBUH) to perform hajj; consequent-
ly, some of us started performing
Omrah, some others started perform-
ing hajj and Omrah and others started
performing hajj.”
Pillars of hajj
1- Ihram: It includes the intention of
commencing the rites of hajj
or Omrah.
2- Standing upon Afarat
Mountain.
3- Circumambulating the
Kaaba which is called
“Tawaf Al-Efadhah”.
4- Walking the distance
repeatedly seven times
between Safa and Marwa
Mountains.
Duties of hajj
1- Ihram must be at
“Meqat”.
2- To stay overnight in
Al-Mozdalifa – a place
in Mecca. Some reli-
gious jurisprudents al-
low children, women
and weak people to
leave after midnight
or one hour after mid-
night. However, Sun-
na says the pilgrim
can wait until per-
forming the dawn.
The obligation of staying overnight
at Mozdalifa is cancelled due to an
excuse such as weakness, fear, con-
gestion, illness or missing the gather-
ing.
3- Staying overnight at Mena for pil-
grims who do not have excuses.
4- Throwing firebrands
5- Getting hair cut
6- Farewell circumambulation. It is
not obligatory for the menstruous
woman.
Sunna
All actions or speeches which the did
or prophet said about hajj are consid-
ered sunna.

P a r t i c i p a t i o n s
After the studies of the industrial
psychology disclosed that it is not
possible to motivate an individual to
work efficeintly without a motif, the
issue of motivation began to be spot-
lighted intensively.
New plans and proper organization
do not mean that the individuals or
personnel will sponetaneously per-
form their duties in an efficient man-
ner. Thus, it is a problem to make
them work enthusiastically; however,
this problem can be treated through
motivation.
Definitely, it is important for an in-
dividual to be able to work; yet, the
Motivation…spur for
human excellence
most important thing for him is to
be enthusiastic to perform work or
duty.
Inlets of motivation
Several experiences have proved that
motivating laborers cannot only be
done through meeting their econom-
ic needs as they can be motivated
through meeting their psychological
and social needs too. The manage-
ment is in error if it thinks that the
inlet of financial compensations is
enough to guarantee loyalty and
satisfaction of employees. It com-
mits another mistake if it provides a
program of social services to moti-
vate employees before it allots a fair
structure for fees to meet firstly their
physiological needs.
Positive and negative motivation
There are two key kinds of motiva-
tion; the first is the positive motiva-
tion and the second is the negative
motivation. The positive motivation
is aimed to increase and improve
productivity and production through
encouragement and awards that urge
the individual to behave a certain be-
havior which the higher administra-
tion is interested in.
The negative motivation seeks to in-
fluence the laborers’ behavior through
applying the principle of penalty and
intimidation through threatening per-
sonnel to apply disciplinary penalties
such as cutting from the salary, de-
priving the employee of incentive or
promotion.
Although the negative motivation
can achieve higher level of produc-
tivity within the short-term; yet, it is
accompanied with a severe decline in
the employees’ spirits, the matter will
be reflected on other behaviors such
as being absent from work and pro-
voking hindrances at work besides
the inappropriate work atmosphere
yielded from resentment and com-
plaints submitted by workers. This
will lead to decreasing production on
the long run. This means that lead-
ers who depend on the second kind
of motivation will get rapid result;
yet it is limited and temporary. Yet,
the positive motivation increases the
rates productivity on the long-run.
Applying the systems of promotions
and connecting the periodical incen-
tives with achieving goals, letting la-
borers share the profits and upgrad-
ing the efficient and distinguished
ones regardless of seniority are the
most prominent patterns of positive
motivation.

The United Nations Framework
Convention Climate Change (UN-
FCCC), which was approved in
1992 and came into effect in 1994,
is aimed to preserve certain level of
gases contaminate the atmosphere.
It is tasked with keeping the lev-
els of 1990 through obligating the
countries which cause such gases
to control these emissions and allot
policies help achieve this goal.
It is worth mentioning that over 191
countries endorsed this covenant on
top of which Kuwait that is tasked,
through this participation, with con-
firming the pioneering role which
KPC plays through its membership
in the national committee of follow-
ing UNFCCC activitites as well as
participating in negotiations held in
this regard to achieve lucrative in-
terests for the Kuwaiti oil sector.
Accordingly, Kuwait has legally to
be committed to the convention; yet,
it should cope at the same time with
the latest international developments
environmentally.
Among the most important require-
ments of this convention is to con-
fine and inventory data related to the
emissions of warm gases besides the
ways of controlling them. It is also
necessary to allot appropriate en-
vironmental policies in addition to
studying the impacts of these emis-
sions through the so-called Initial

The mission of gearing up this proj-
ect has been decided to be achieved
by national proficient personnel
from the country’s various institu-

ricultural Affairs and Fish Resources
(PAAAFR).
In this context, Al-Sanosi expected
the period of gearing up this project
will take 12 months approximately
out of which 3-6 months are allotted
the phase of inventorying the gases,
which is considered the infrastruc-
ture of the project, will be executed.
As per the participation of the nation-
al efficient personnel in this project,
he stressed this step is aimed to de-
velop proficient national personnel
able to prepare constantly such ini-
tial national communications which
are conducted periodically every six
years. In addition, this step is also
aimed to found a dependable wide-
spread base specialized in such issue
which serves at the end the interests
of the State of Kuwait.

In this issue of KPC Newsletter, we
will throw light on the geophysi-
cal surveys, which are conducted
by geologists to image the bot-
tom of the earth as it is considered
one of the most important ways of
searching for and exploring oil due
to its capabilities used in imaging
the layers and constructions of the
earth.
The seismic ways of the geophysi-
cal survey depend focally on the
elastic waves which move among
the various rocks with different
velocity. These waves are gener-
ated at certain spot. However, the
time in which the energy refracted
or reflected from the surfaces of
substances, is calculated. This pro-
cedure eases the way of identifying
the locations of the buried sub-
stances which are to be exploded.
Consequently, the seismic ways
excelled the other ways in terms of
the data they provide in this regard
particularly if these data are han-
dled and interpreted appropriately.
Among the ways of generating
seismic waves is to place dynamite
inside the well of explosion.
Additionally, researchers tried dili-
gently to follow other ways to get
seismic waves such as dropping
weight of using electrodynamics
shakings; yet, it was useless since
the energy produced from such
ways is not enough to achieve such
process. As a result, scientists ap-
proved the way of explosion as key
method.
It is possible now to classify the re-
sources of the seismic waves into
the following items:
1- Chemical solid explosives such
as dynamite, aqua sis, flexotri, pri-
macord and maxi pulse.
2- Resources of compressed air
such as seimoject par and terrapak.
3- Resources of power which de-
pend basically on sudden move-
ment of a piston or transducer or
boomer, the sonoprobe or the spark
array.
4- Gas exploders such as acqua-
pules , dinoseis and delta pulse.
5- Resources of mechanical im-
pulse or hummar.
6- Implosive resources such as the
hydroseis.
7- Vibratory resources such as the
vibroseis.
It is mentioned that the way of the
vibratory resources is classified
independently; whereas the other
ways yield sudden and short tra-
ditional pulses; however, selecting
the way depends on the require-
ments of operation to fulfill suc-
cessfully the seismic surveys.
It is distinguished with high-tech capabilities
