TAKE ME HOME | UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
There was a time when Max was a feisty little spitfire but now this sweet, 7-year-old Standard Poodle has mellowed out and has learned to appreciate down time. Easygoing and enduring, he loves to relax on the porch with the family nearby or cuddle with you on the couch while you watch your favorite sitcom. With age comes wisdom and Max is a well-trained pooch who is “everything trained” and loyal as can be.
In exchange for a loving home, he will be our friend, your partner and your loyal companion for the years to come.
Max is available NOW at the Arizona Humane Society’s Campus for Compassion located at 1521 West Dobbins Road in Phoenix. His adoption fee is $35 and includes his neuter surgery and vaccines. For more information call 602-997-7585 x1045 and ask for animal ID number A465111.

FASHION DESIGN | UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
eet Patricia Gomez-Gracia, Madrid born, Miami native, whose career in fashion has brought her from Miami to New York to London, her adoptive home.
Patricia started her career like a natural. Unlike conventionally trained designers she studied economics and marketing at the University of Florida only inadvertently beginning her career in design. With a local textile store going out of business, her roommate suggested they buy fabric to make handbags. Though her roommate quickly lost interest, Patricia persevered in selling her creations. After graduation, she continued her new found interest back in Miami producing a capsule collection.
Patricia quickly realized that if she wanted to continue down this path, she needed to learn the ins and outs of the fashion industry. Her background in economics and marketing wasn’t going to be enough without proper training. She sought out her favorite designer, Alexander McQueen. If she was going to do this, she needed to do it right, and who better to study under, than one of the greats.

i th a burning desire to work for McQueen, she got herself on a plane to London. Demonstrating the determination and chutzpah that have become her trademarks, she secured an internship. This quickly transitioned into a freelance designer role. From there Patricia moved to a full time designer roll at Homebody, under the Marchpole umbrella.
These experiences reinforced Patricia’s eye for detail and deepened her knowledge of the business. In 2009 after five years, working hard building other people’s companies, Patricia decided it was time to revisit her own dream. Gomez-Gracia was born.
Her designs are influenced by her natural style and her exposure to a diverse range of cultures. Patricia takes inspiration from her passion for textures and fabrics as opposed to creating a theme, as is the more traditional method. Feminine and refined with an edgy, rock and roll twist, Gomez-Gracia’s designs feature sensual cut- cuts and flattering lines in luxurious textured and often contrasting fabrics. Body conscious, fresh and innovative silhouettes, the brands signature appeals to women universally.

he label has now caught the eye of many celebrities and fashionistas over the past few years. It is in high demand and has become increasingly evident why. Her contemporary yet classic designs give the appropriate amount of edge to any look. Not only does each piece exude sophistication with a rocker chic vibe, but the flattering lines, contrasting textures and fabrics, and beautiful cuts make every woman look and feel like a star. photographer - cameron habashian of dcprostudios

s a French fashion designer, Joanne Laverson made people feel glamorous in her clothing. Now after spending many hours in her husband’s plastic surgery office, Laverson was able to develop knowledge and experience in the science of beauty. Founding “The Doctor’s Wife in 2009. The Doctor’s Wife skincare line delivers high-end results for all skin types and is supported by scientific knowledge.
“If you have to sell something, it has to deliver,” Laverson said. She herself tried a wide range of skincare products, but felt most products were deceiving. What she found was that the other cosmetic lines were solely intended for commercial purposes. Ms. Laverson believes that skin care should be easy, reasonably priced, and effective, which was something skincare companies were not doing at the time.
Laverson’s top skincare tip is that clean skin is essential. In order to achieve this level of hygiene, dead skin cells and bacteria must be removed, and The Doctor’s Wife has developed products to solve this problem. The company’s line of products include cleansers, toners, exfoliates, moisturizers, anti-aging serums and sun blocks that are aimed at cleaning, exfoliating, nourishing and protecting the skin.

Each product in the line is effective for many reasons, but most importantly, the use of natural, high quality ingredients is what really makes it work. “It’s all about results, and that’s basically it,” Laverson said. Not only are the products made by the top chemists and backed by insiders in the business, but The Doctor’s Wife has also made the products effective for everyone, no matter what ethnicity, gender, age, or skin type.
When using the product, “You feel like you have a little treasure,” Laverson said. With the combination and strength of peptides, antioxidants, and moisturizing qualities, The Doctor’s Wife has made products packed with all the necessary ingredients to properly take care of skin. Laverson is proud of her line’s ability to pack a ton of ingredients into one small bottle. “It’s so complicated, but yet it’s a very easy and fun product to use,” she said.
“When you buy The Doctor’s Wife, you take a shortcut to shopping,” Laverson said. “It’s almost like having a passport to a good product.”

MODEL CONFIDENTIAL | UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
http://fashionfacesmag.com | DEC 2013 43
’ve spent the better part of the past six years, working in my field as a Spokesmodel/Print model. I never thought that I would be doing what I’m doing now. I attended FSU and obtained my degree in Marketing and Economics and have always had a passion for the arts and entertainment. I sang in Gospel choir at FSU and recorded a demo. I first started shooting little projects like Home Shopping network and catalogs when I was in high school but never truly pursued it until I was done with college.
Out of college I started working as a fitness model and I worked in the automotive industry as a spokesmodel. From there I moved to Miami to work a job in marketing real estate. At this same time the economy hit its low and I got some offers to do modeling and realized how lucrative a career this could actually be. So from there I signed with an agent at Irene Marie models (later moving to Elite Models) and made it a full time profession.

elanie is an accomplished model with exotic good looks and will be sharing insight from the modeling world. Melanie’s resume continues to grow and it’s in large part to how she conducts herself. She’s a professional and that means more than just looking beautiful.
There’s a unique balance involved in being a full time professional model, businesswoman, and fitness competitor. It takes planning, persistence, & tough skin to keep it up day to day. I am not complaining though this is the path that I chose and I truly love what I do. Everyday is different and a always a new setting to work in with new circumstances.

’ve been blessed to work with large corporations as a spokesperson, to shoot campaigns, and to travel the globe. Most people know me from the music videos I’ve worked on, Magazine covers, and catalogs. I’m very happy to have expanded my career in entertainment as a host, little parts in TV shows, and movies. photographer - steve ellinger
uring the early 1980’s, I, Steve Ellinger, was a student of architecture at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. I also did a bit of fashion photography when I had time. One of my favorite professors was Robert Bruno, a visionary architect who, by all accounts was more artist, than traditional architect. At that time he was building, or should I say “sculpting” his house that he would literally pour his life into with blood and steel. Little did I know that 33 years later, I would be doing a fashion shoot in the very structure that he was building, that I would visit from time to time as a student. Most artists and architects know of the 110 ton steel “house” in Ransom Canyon, Texas.
DEC 2013 | http://fashionfacesmag.com54
photographer - steve ellinger
t took Robert Bruno over 30 years to build the house, and it still has some finishing to do before I would call it “finished”.
Life however can often throw curves when not expected, and Robert Bruno unfortunately passed away a few years ago...never really seeing his vision finished. The house now sits vacant, overlooking the beautiful canyon below, as if standing guard to protect its artful presence.
As a practicing architect, as well as fashion photographer, I ‘m acutely aware of the parallels between architecture and fashion. To do a fashion shoot in the Bruno House would be a dream come true. A dream that was to soon be realized.
Fellow noted Lubbock photographer, Don Carpenter, called me one day. He said that, with some research, he was able to track down the holder of the keys to this masterpiece. A few phone calls later and some subtle begging, we had access and a date on the calendar! To be honest, the only way this happened was that the property manager, who once worked for Bruno, was impressed that I personally knew Bruno, and that I held him in very high regard. We were also in good company, as previously the only others that were afforded this opportunity was the Discovery Channel, Twill Magazine, Neiman Marcus (for their catalogue), and Vogue Magazine.
The shoot was on!

ver the next few months we worked out the details, secured professional models that “fit” the look we were aiming for, and brought on board some of the best MUAH artists and stylists anywhere. Perfect fall weather greeted the models, stylists, and crew the morning of the shoot.
While the models were in make-up, we set up lights, seemingly miles of extension cords, and light modifiers everywhere. This was also the first fashion shoot that I have ever done where we needed security, not to keep sinister individuals away, but the endless flow of onlookers who were curious, and interested.
Within a hour of starting the shoot, cars were lined up down the street and crowds were standing about outside, all but disappointed that the were not allowed access inside.
DEC 2013 | http://fashionfacesmag.com62
photographer - steve ellinger
ur fashion looks were tailored to compliment the futuristic nature of the house, with contemporary and timeless looks that will never cease being in fashion, just like the timeless nature of the architecture.
I integrated some tension between the models where possible to again mock the tension of the architectural juxtaposition of the architecture. Hard, cold, rust, and beauty was the theme of the day. Seven hours later we had the shoot in the can, four very tired models, and an excitement about what we had just created.
As in any great design, I think that we can look back on these images years from now, as well as the architectural genius of Bruno and they will still look contemporary. And in the end, isn’t that what great fashion and design is all about?

“ ‘m very unpredictable,” grins Medina.
However, “Unpredictable” barely scratches the surface when it comes to describing the stunning Danish electro-pop singer and songwriter. Penning her own songs, performing with impeccable delivery, and entrancing through inimitable charm, she’s undeniably enchanting. Medina’s also about to shake up pop for good with her second U.S. album (out December 10th, 2013) and first U.S. full-length, Forever, available via Ultra Music.

usic has always been an integral part of her life. Born and raised in Denmark with a Chilean father and Danish mother, she discovered her passion at an extremely early age. “My parents had a band together playing Latin-American music,” she recalls. “They’d rehearse every Wednesday in our basement. I couldn’t sleep so I’d go down there and play with them. That’s really where it started.”
In 2007, she began releasing songs in her native Denmark. By 2010, she’d sold over 95K albums and 350k singles at home, rising to prominence as the country’s most prominent female artist. Her international breakthrough came with the release of “You & I”—her first track translated into English and has exceeded over 20 million YouTube views. Tastemaker BBC Radio 1 dubbed it “A-List”, and it also introduced American audiences to Medina. In the U.S., it reached #6 Billboard’s “Hot Dance Airplay” chart. Bolstered by the success of “You & I”, she released her first international album, Welcome to Medina, in Germany where it became a massive hit, exceeding over 160k singles. Cumulatively, she’s sold over 400k albums and 1 million singles. However, Forever sets her up on a global stage like never before.
Driven by orchestral synths, a driving beat, and powerful vocals, the title single, “Forever”, announces her formal arrival stateside. With a universal flavor, it’s a quintessential dance floor anthem of undying love that transcends boundaries. “I actually wrote it on Valentine’s Day for my ex-boyfriend because I forgot to buy him a present,” she laughs.
“I was in the studio, so I wrote a song instead. It’s about needing somebody to love you regardless of everything. Your flaws don’t matter to each other. Your love is the strongest thing.”
On the other end of the spectrum is the slow yet sultry duet with Lloyd, “Happening”. Featuring their incredible interplay, it’s a genre-bridging ballad. She goes on, “It shows a different side of me as an artist. I can’t write about champagne bottles and dancing on tables. That’s just not me. I have a lot of art, and the way I write is quite sensitive.”
That honesty is exactly why she’s bound to resonate even beyond the clubs and on a much larger level. “This is what I feel,” affirms Medina. “I write everything myself, and you’re getting me in the songs. I just hope people get it and take something positive away. That’s the most important thing.”You’re going to love Medina forever as soon as you hear her.

FF - You’re releasing your third English studio album, “Forever 2.0” in Dec 2013, what gave you the inspiration for this album, and what can we expect?
MEDINA - I’m inspired by what happens in my life. The rhythms and sounds I use emphasize things I’ve been through. FF - You’re Danish and Chilean, do you think that your mixed heritage plays a part in the music you make, if so how?
MEDINA - It plays a big part to help me understand things musically. I grew up listening to worldwide folk music, and my parents used to have a band. My dad’s way of singing has inspired me in a way.
FF - You have so many talents, what encouraged you to sign on with Gosh for Medina by Gosh (your new makeup line)?
MEDINA - Well, it all starts with a dream, don’t it? I had a whole plan made to present my idea to Gosh. About a minute into my introduction the head of Gosh started to laugh at me. He said, “Do you even know how much that will cost to just start up? ... Millions!” He then suggested we start with something a little smaller, but still inspired by my ideas. A year after that meeting my makeup was in stores; something I’m extremely proud of!
FF - This year you won Elle’s (Denmark) “Style Icon of the Year” award, what do you think makes your style so creative and sets you apart from everyone else?
http://fashionfacesmag.com | DEC 2013 149
MEDINA - I think I won, because I’m all for not giving a #*$& about what other people think of my style. I wear what I want! I have an extremely solid fan base and they stand up for my values.
FF - What do you hope to accomplish in the year 2014?
MEDINA - World take over! I’m always coming up with new ideas and plans. I’m a ticking creative bomb.
Fashion - Faces’ Medina Interview
DEC 2013 | http://fashionfacesmag.com150
FF - How do you plan to capture the U.S. audience?
MEDINA - Hmm…I don’t have a plan for that. Once we get to know each other they will see I’m a real person. I’m very consistent in the way I present myself as an artist. I’m not wrapped up in musical dance shows when I tour. It’s about my music.
FF - You’ve been on countless magazine covers and sung all over the world, what is a moment that you will always look back on as a defining moment in your career? MEDINA - Hard to say I have countless defining moments. The one that stands out the most is when I performed topless at Copenhagen City Hall Square for the Gay Pride Show; that was fun! FF - What’s something that you haven’t done yet, that you would like to conquer in the near future?
MEDINA - Tour the world with my band!
FF - You currently on tour, what is the best part about being on the road? What is the worst?
MEDINA - The best part is definitely meeting new fans and being out on my own. The worst part would be the food. I’m not rich enough to bring a chef, yet!
FF - What’s the best part about making albums in different languages? Do you feel more creative with one or the other?
MEDINA - No difference at all... I love it.
FF - What has been the hardest challenge within your profession?
MEDINA - Going straight to a Danish tour from international tours, where I sing the same songs in different languages. It’s a bit confusing sometimes.
FF - Where do you see your style going in the next year?
MEDINA - My style just follows me.
FF - What about modeling makes you feel happy and creative?
MEDINA - All in all it’s just a personal satisfaction when you see yourself looking good, and a fun challenge to improve your imperfections and poses. To explore your 1000 faces and know who you are is a form of expression.

MEDINA, a pop artist with a dance and R&B influence, already has a large European following, she is Denmark’s biggest and most celebrated female artist, a multi-platinum selling performer, who has graced the cover of Elle magazine and has won multiple awards in her native Denmark, including the MTV Award for “Best Danish Act” for the past three consecutive years, which is record breaking. Additionally, she is the #1 MOST Googled Artist and has received more radio airplay than any other artist in Denmark this year. She has also won the Fashion Icon Award in both 2010 and 2011, 8 Danish Music Awards (Equivalent to US Grammy) and more. There is an artistic depth to MEDINA that clearly separates her from most other female pop icons.
The Singer/Model/Actress/All Around IT Girl, Medina has experienced massive success with her international single “You & I,” which has sold more than 1 million worldwide, and has over 20 million views on Youtube, while in the UK, the single ranked as A-list at BBC Radio 1 and entered the US Billboard Chart’s “Hot Dance Airplay” at #6. The following single “Addiction” topped the Billboard Hot Dance Chart at #1. Along with huge success as a multi-platinum selling artist, the Danish singer and songwriter has worked with the likes of Deadmau5, Wolfgang Gartner, Tinie Tempah and sells out European tours. Her fans absolutely adore her!
http://fashionfacesmag.com | DEC 2013 153
MEDINA is set to conquer the U.S. music charts with her forthcoming US debut album release for Ultra Records, “Forever” this December. Within five months of its European release, the album reached Gold status in Germany and her current summer tour is already sold out in Denmark.
Not only is MEDINA a highly successful pop artist, she is also the face of many established brands such as Reebok, Schweppes Lemon and Jewelry line Krantz & Ziegler. She has also appeared on the cover of Elle Denmark twice, along with other female and lifestyle magazine covers most recently Eurowoman, making her highly suitable for anything fashion-related. With her foot well in the fashion world door, there is undoubtedly more to come.

ll serious fashion/style students know, that Yohji Yamamato is without a doubt the greatest, most inspired, unique, original, and influential designer, to ever have existed in the history of fashion. Yamamato along with Rei Kawkubo, founder of the legendary Japanese label, Comme des Garcons, caused shock and alarm amongst the assembled fashion cognoscentil.
Yamamato’s first appeared on the world fashion stage in the early eighties, where he had an extremely controversial and confrontational show in Paris. The French were outraged by the [then] young Japanese gunslingers, who ignored, circumvented, and willfully subverted, the conventions of fashion. They were also confused by the ultra-cool, artsy style, warfare, almost kamikaze and confrontational visual imagery and style.
Yamamato & Kawkubo were instantly attacked in the press by the French establishment! However, today so many of the very same people who attacked them so vehemently claim they not only loved it, but “got it” instantly.
Despite the press destroying the images of Yamamato and Kawkubo, they quickly became the must-have
DEC 2013 | http://fashionfacesmag.com154
designer choice for all the ultra-cool, artsy, privileged school-hipsters, and all those who understood the true meaning of style. Throughout the 80’s, to be seen in Yamamato or Kawkubo’s Comme des Garcons, was to be recognized as someone who was apart of the bon fide cool school.
Visiting Japan in those days (and sometimes even today), was a trip to style nirvana! The coolest, best dressed, most stylish, and most beautiful women, (and sometimes men) in the world, thronged the cool areas of Tokyo. Today, one now finds the same thing when visiting Shanghai or Beijing.
Fashion or rather style is a language, and like all languages it has its very own unique codes, signs, and signals. These “codes” in many respects are timeless and almost transcendent. They have an almost Zen like impenetrability and subtlety, that implies so much by seeming to do very little.
What Yamamato and Kawakubo brought to the world of fashion was style and artistry in its purest form. If you are fortunate enough to own or find a beautiful unique black Yamamato or Kawakubo’s Comme des Garcons piece, then you own a treasure indeed.

nterestingly enough, both Yamamato & Kawakubo have always distanced themselves from the whole business of fashion trends. They have on many occasions been quoted as saying that they disliked fashion, that trends are foolish, and that they are simply clothes makers.
Despite their feelings about fashion Yamamato & Kawkubo have had an enormous influence on the cooler more stylish end of the fashion world, and continue to do so. Fashion designer, Ann Demeulemeester, Belgium/Antwerp School, and London’s Pure Mind Clothing all acknowledge Yamamato and Kawakubo. Pure Mind Clothing even call them the Ultimate Masters.
awakubo, is now her seventies. She is no longer the driving and guiding force of Comme des Garcons, and sadly the labels best days are behind them.
More an artist than a businessman, Yamamato neared bankruptcy a few years back with massive debts. Later a Japanese finance company took over the debt and business management of his companies. He now creates clothes for his “Y’s” label, and he also became involved in Adidas and leant his name to their “Y3” brand.
I’ve had the pleasure to meet Yamamato and he is simply a lovely man. It was a pleasure to spend a little time in the presence of a true master and gentleman.

FASHION DESIGN | ITALY
fashion designer, Laura Azzariti
oco Chanel once said, “There is nothing more comfortable than a caterpillar, and nothing more made for love than a butterfly.”
The “Butterfly Collection” is a sampling consisting of two dresses and two pantsuits, with elements of the Princess Handle with Care couture line. All the items are available on demand in various colors. Every garment is created with Silk Georgette fabric, and embellished with Tatting’s butterflies. Butterflies are used to embody the vision of the Princess Handle with Care’s ideal woman. This ideal woman exemplifies delicateness, freedom, and is in constant metamorphosis.
The “Butterfly Collection” was inspired by the style and times of the 1920s, when fashion, femininity, and elegance, came together in perfect harmony with style and refinement. The collection is also a tribute to Laura Azzariti’s (designer) grandmothers, who inspired her to aim toward a refined and tasteful style. Azzariti’s grandmothers have always influenced the direction of her approach in garment making.
With a title like the “Butterfly Collection”, it is obvious that this is attire for women who want to fly.
