DESIGNER BACKGROUND

• Born in Pau, France in 1923

• He is still alive to this day!

• He studied and became a civil engineer

• But he was always interested in architecture and textile design.

INFLUENCES

• 1945 he moved to Paris and work a bit with Jeanne LaFaurie

• Paris couturiere working from 1925 until 1958.

• She was known for dependable, but not spectacular clothing and fine draping.

• Andre Courreges worked there as a draftsman in 1947.

INFLUENCES

• 1950 he was a apprenticed Balenciaga.

• he learned the innovative approach to design.

• One of the designer’s first innovations was to replace the LBD with the little white dress

• He started to use futuristic fabrics, including PVC and vinyl.

• Worked together for 10 years.

• During the time when Courreges space age collection came out was near the time when man first landed on the moon, Apollo 11.

• His clothes represented the scientific progress in 1960s

• This significant occurrence affected the work of Courreges by leading him to create a space age collection.

mid- 90’s Courregesbrought in Jean Charles de Castelbajac as the new designer

Courreges still keeps an eye on everything.

Jacques Bungert and partner Frederic Torloting bought the fashion house earlier this year

Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, the young designers behind the label CoperniFemme, were hired on May 6th of this year as the artistic directors.

Their first collection will be unveiled in October next during Fashion Week spring-summer 2016.

Interesting Facts…

Andre is now 92 and suffering from Parkinson’s decease

Just this past month, there was a scare in the fashion world with the news that Andre had passed away. Posts of condolences were made all over Facebook just to find out that this was just a rumour and that he was still alive and well.
