Front Cover Main ImageHair and make up: I like that both her hair and make up are simple, effortless and natural – these aspects are important making the front cover inviting to my target audience. The make up is important giving her bone structure more emphasis as well as a more sophisticated and bold look.

Styling: This wardrobe choice is quite simple as well, it is a bold, bright color that stands out and will catch my target audiences attention. This fashion choice is contemporary embracing today’s fashion statements.

Pose: Her pose is one of confidence, as well as a bold pose. Her pose is quite inviting as it will catch the attention of my target audience.

Subject: The focus of the main image is a normal looking woman dressed in nice, well fitted apparel, indicating this is a fashion magazine. My main image may stand out more than others amongst the famous faces that already exist on shelves some may be more interested in a “never seen before” face.

Breakdown Of The Front Cover

Page 19: Fashion Magazine Construction

To initiate I created my front cover using adobe Photoshop. After creating a new file I started with a size A4 (2cm x 29.7cm) background.

To follow I chose my main image reset image resolution and image size.

Using magic wand I selected the white area and using the reverse option I copied the main image and pasted into the original A4 layout.

I then chose my masthead font based on my research done. I used a black font with a white outline to make it stand out and contrast from my background. I then used the transform tool to fit it onto the A4 layout.

To follow I began to add articles to my front cover. I also began changing the fonts and color to make my articles more eye-catching.

Next, I started adding graphical features to make my front cover more visually attractive. Also, so my articles have a visual with the text. Next step was to rearange and resize text so they are visually noticeable.

Here I resized the text and fitting them into the appropriate order so they followed the magazine design conventions and fashion magazine conventions in regard to style.

As a final re-touch on my final front cover page I have added the shadow effect so that the Image becomes more prominent and it stands out from a plane background. The idea was to achieve the 3D effect. Being fully satisfied with my front cover outcome I saved it as a JPG.

Final Front Cover Design

The masthead is a san-serif Adobe has been edited with shadows and outlined in white so that it would stand out and contrast from the orange dress of the main image and the white background.

Main image is a medium portrait photograph of a typical woman who represents the magazine’s target audience. This is to make the magazine more personal, visually attractive, and inviting to the desired audience.

The lighting is quite dim, and my background is white as the focus is on the main image. The colorful wardrobe is in style and quite contemporary, which brings together a sophisticated look as well as a modern fashion. The model is quite serious with a bold expression and bold stance.

The main image and the text fit well together as the colors of both contrast from each other and are very visually enticing. This is a big part of production and sales for my magazine as it will get catch my target audiences attention.

The language on my front cover is very contemporary, short and direct. They sell the article quite well as they are quite direct article names. The various text sizes and fonts makes them contrast from the background as well as making them visually effective.

Final Content Page DesignMy main image is of my main article “…life of a designer”. The image I used for her is her in a blue dress, first off as it contrasts from the front cover and is not plain and repetition. Second, she is quite inviting and creating a bold statement in her blue dress as she looks quite powerful in royal blue. This images as well the other supporting images all contrast from the white background and the red and black text. This was important to me so that my target audience would be intrigued and not disinterested by a monotone content page.

The masthead is a san-serif font in black. The color makes it stand out more making it more visually attractive for my target audience. This also makes it quite easier to navigate through the magazine

The typography of my content page varies. All of my articles usually have a different font, color, and size incorporated with them. I used red and black because they contrast most from the white background and all images that surround the text. The various fonts used make the texts seem more fun, contemporary, and visually enticing. I have used graphical elements to get the target audience intrigued and to not leave anything white on the page as it will not be visually appealing.

Final Double Page Spread Design The image I have used is of the “designer” I have interviewed. She looks very elegant, bold, even graceful. I chose this particular picture because she looks very inviting, and bold in the orange dress. The orange contrasts from the white and blue background.

The typography of my double page spread is quite diverse. I have used numerous fonts, italics, and various colors. I altered colors so that the questions would stand out and so that it would be easier for my target audience to navigate around the article. The red, black, orange, and blue all contrast from each other as well as from the background.

The masthead is consisted of both serif and san-serif fonts. This makes it stand out more and more alluring to my target audience – as it is more visually attractive.

The layout of my text is all on the left hand side in order for my main image to stand out more as well as the quote I have chosen to use from my interview with the fashion designer. My double page spread is easy to navigate as I have used different colors for my questions and different fonts to make my quote and mast head stand out.
