Oldest end newest ships in HumbleOil & Refining Company’s American-flagtanker fleet show the strides tanker trans-portation and construction have madesince the end of World War II. Built in1944, the 16,500-ton Esso Scranton, fore-ground, is the last T-2 tanker in the Hum-ble fleet. Lying alongside the Scrantonat the oil company’s Baytown refinery onthe Houston Ship Channel is the 67,800-ton Esso New Orleans, delivered to Hum-ble early in 1965. A capicity cargo forthe Scranton, 135,000 barrels, could becarried in three of the largest of thesupertanker’s 21 tanks, with room tospare, and the smaller ship would fiton the deck of the New Orleans betweenbow and superstructure.
