    About This Document

    With the LTE technology develop, more and more users use LTE network, LTE band width

    cannot satisfy user requirement, the operator need to release part of 2G/3G frequency used forLTE, LTE band width become wider. This solution is LTE Refarming.

    The normal LTE Refarming method is to remove cells neighbor relationship, remove externalneighbors, and remove inter-frequency, then change cells LTE central frequency and band

    width. If whole network has more than 3000 sites, one time Refarming 100 sites, in this wayyou need to execute about 70,000 commands and it will take about 10 hours. And if it s acommercial network, the operator wont satisfy so long time site disconnect.

    Even choose CME to generate incremental scripts, there is another problem is plan area build.If whole network has more than 3000 sites, and take whole network as a plan area, it will takea very long time to create this plan area. If just choose tier 3 sites, it will take a very long timeto plan these sites, also select these sites in the plan area of M2000 CME is a big work,because CME cannot support sites list important, and you should select these sites one by one.

    In this document, it will introduce a very fast way for LTE Refarming, which will greatimprove the LTE Refarming efficiency. Its basic principle is: use offline CME to delete allthe Refarming cellsneighbor and external neighbor, then use this site configure to instead thecurrent site configure, and use ANR to build all the external neighbors and neighborrelationship.

    1 Refarming Workflow1.1 Fast LTE Refarming Solution

    Fast LTE Refarming solution is faster than normal Refarming solution, because all theneighbor relative scripts delete will be down offline, and neighbor relationship add base onANR. The solution as follows:

    Check the site status and alarms, make sure all Refarming sites are connected toM2000 and there is no big alarm issue.

    Backup the latest XML configure of LTE sites from M2000.

    Import these XML configures in CME, export the Radio data and Bulk modifyconfigure data from CME, save as xlsx format.

    Modify these parameters in xlsx file, import xlsx file to CME, and delete neighborsand external cells during xlsx file import.

    Check the modify result and export the new XML file.

    Upload the new XML to site, and activate the site.

    Check the sites status, bandwidth, frequency and relative parameters, finish LTERefarming work.

    2 The Operation Deatils2.1 Check Cells Status

    Before start LTE Refarming, should check the sites status, to confirm all the sites status worksnormal, especially for the disconnect site, should resolve before Refarming, all it will affectRefarming failure.

    Because one time there are many sites to Refarming, so its difficult to check one by one, youdo better to use Batch command to export all cells status.

    The following is one sites cell status check, for Batch command execute, please reference2.7 Batch Commands Execute.

    2.2 Check Alarms

    Before start LTE Refarming, should check the sites alarms, to confirm there is no alarm thatwill affect the site restart.

    Because one time there are many sites to Refarming, so its difficult to check one by one, youdo better to use Batch command to export all the Current, Criticalalarms.

    The following is one sites alarm check example, for Batch command execute, please

    reference 2.7 Batch Commands Execute.

    2.3 Backup XML File from M2000

    In the traditional way XML backup, we will search Site name in M2000, then backup it; or webackup the entire XML file together, and then choose the XML that you want. But if there arehundred sites, it will take a lot of time, the following method, give you a fast way to collectthe exactly sitesXML files that you want.

    1. Export the NE XML file path.

    2. Open the file, and lookup NE XML file path which you want to export.

    2.4 New XML Generate

    2.4.1 Frenquency Change with CME

    1. Import the cfg file to CME.

    2. Export the Radio data and change the earfcn and bandwidth:

    3. Select the following 5 items, and then specify the path of the exporting radio data.

    4. Open the file exported by last step and change the earfcn and bandwidth in the cell sheet.

    5. Save the change and import to CME to update the Radio data.

    Here there is a difference, for normal cells, you should delete all the neighbors and externalneighbors; for CA cells, you cannot delete the Co-sector CA bind neighbors.

    I. For Normal Cells

    Select Cell and the 4 items. Select delete, un-select create X2eNodeB, then next.

    II. For CA Cells

    For CA Cells, delete neighbor operation should be change, because Co-sector cells cannotremove neighbors in CA situation. Operation as follows:

    Open the Radio data, manually delete all the inter-freq and intra-freq neighbors excludingco-site neighbors in EutranIntraFreqNCelland EutranInterFreqNCell; delete all theEutranExternalCelland EutranInterNFreq.

    Select Cell and the 4 items. Select Update, un-select create X2eNodeB, then next

    2.4.2 Bulk Modify Configure Data

    According to customer requirement, choose the parameters that you need to change duringLTE Refarming. Here take PDCCH Intial Symbol Numbermodify as an example.

    1. Export base station bulk configuration data.

    5. Set PDCCH Intial Symbol Numberto 1.

    7. Select the sites that need to update.

    2.4.3 Check Modify Result

    After all the above finish, you can check your modify result.

    2. Specify the output path, select all the sites, and select all the checks, then next.

    3. Then you can find the final cfg file, un-compress them and open one site by notepad toverify the earfcn.

    2.5 Batch Commands Generate

    If execute site one by one, it will waste a lot of time, use batch commands can improveexecute efficient. Follow the operation sequence, 8 batch scripts need to be loaded for theRefarming.

    DSP CELL: double check the site status before Refarming;

    DLD CFGFILE: down the new XML file from M2000 to site;

    LST CFGFILE: check the XML files date in site, to confirm the XML is the new filethat already be modified;

    ACT CFG: activate the site, this should be done in mid-night;

    DSP CELL: check the cellsstatus, make sure all cells are on air;

    LST CELL: check the cells frequency and bandwidth, to confirm the cells alreadyRefarming;

    ADD Interfreq: because around LTE Refarming cells, which may have not be

    Refarming, so Refarming cells should add these cellsfrequency, then ANR can addthese cells as neighbor;

    Modify PDSCH: because after Refarming, the bandwidth will change, if keep thesame PDSCH, the cellsMax transmit power will change, it maybe exceed the RRUpower limitation, and lead to cells cannot activate.

    Following Script Makeris used for scripts generate, you just need to input the sites name inthe first sheet and file path in 2-DLD CFGFILE_WestBrom, you can get the above scripts.

    Upload Scripts to M2000 Ftp Server, the file path should be same as batch 2 DLDCFGFILE, such as /export/home/sysm/Refarming/20140226

    3 SummaryFast LTE Refarming can greatly improve efficiency. We take EE as an example, use thetraditional method, one nightly can only Refarming 50 sites, while use fast LTE Refarming,one night can active 200 sites.

    After Refarming (from 10M to 20M), the LTE performance is stable, and DL throughput has agreat improve.

    3.2 F&QIn this chapter, summarize several problems that we frequently meet during our Refarming,which may useful for other projects.

    All the following examples happened 2G and LTE share MRFU situation.

    3.2.1 SET Frequency Failed

    Issue Description

    After execute ACT CFGFILE, and find cell instance stateis Uninstalland Reason for

    Latest state changeis SET Frequency Failed.

    Root Cause

    This problem caused by our RRU 35M bandwidth limitations, 2G frequency and LTEfrequency span more 35M, it will affect LTE cell cannot activate.

    Problem Check Method

    1) 4G:

    Check 4G MRFU version, if MRFUe, every cell should have 2 MRFUs, if MRFUd, each cellhas 1 MRFU.

    a. DSP BRD:;

    b. DSP BRDMFRINFO;

    2) 2G:

    Check 2G frequency setting, if 2G frequency and LTE frequency span more than 35M, it willhave issue.

    a. Select co-site 2G cellsBSC;

    b. LST GTRX;--------in put 4G Co-site site name.

    Be careful, each MRFU cannot support more than 35M (2G+4G), all it will have setfrequency failed issue.

    3.2.2 Cell power exceeding RRU's capability

    Issue Description

    After execute ACT CFGFILE, and find cell instance stateis Uninstalland Reason forLatest state changeis Cell power exceeding RRU's capability.

    Root Cause

    This is because after Refarming, if LTEs bandwidth increases, LTE power will increase too,and it may exceed the RRU production specification.

    Problem Check Method

    1) MOD PDSCHCFG; ---------to 152 or 170;2) DSP CELL;

    If after you change PDSCHCFG to 152, the cell instance statestill Uninstall, you shouldcheck 2G Power, need to modify the 2G TRXs port setting.

    3.2.3 No Information

    Issue Description

    After execute ACT CFGFILE, and find cell instance stateis Uninstalland Reason forLatest statechange is No Information.

    Root Cause

    This is because after Refarming, if LTEs bandwidth increases, LTE power will increase too,and it may exceed the RRU production specification.

    Problem Check Method

    1) MOD PDSCHCFG; ---------to 152 or 170;2) UBL CELL;3) ACT CELL(if DSP CELL, you see the site still uninstall); 4) DSP CELL;

    If after you change PDSCHCFG to 152, the cell instance statestill Uninstall, you shouldcheck 2G Power, need to modify the 2G TRXs port setting.

    3.2.4 The system is processing a batch configuration command

    Issue Description

    After execute ACT CFGFILE, and find The system is processing a batch configuration

    commandand leads to ACT CFGFILE failure.

    Root Cause

    This is because the site starts Batchfile command, you should stop it this command.

    Found the Batchfile session ID, and stop it, then you can execute this site.

    3.2.5 Reasonable Power Setting Checking

    Most of sites activate failure is caused by RRU power setting exceed the RRU productspecification. GSM and LTE share the MRFU, so you should check GSM and LTE two areasto confirm the power setting is reasonable.

    I. LTE Power Setting Check

    1) LST PDSCHCFG:;---------Check the PDSCH and PB;

    2) LST CELLDLPCPDSCHPA:;----------Check PA;3) Check the current cells' power value from the following configuration;

    From these steps, you can get the current LTE cells power setting.

    4) DSP BRD:;-------- To get the MRFUs slot information. And also you can confirm thiscell configured as MRFUd or MRFUe, if it's MRFUe every cell need 2 MRFUs, if it'sMRFUd every cell only need 1 MRFU.

    5) DSP BRDMFRINFO;--------To get the Boards serial number.

    From Board serial number, you can exactly confirm GSM cell and LTE cell share whichboard.

    6) LST SECTOR:;-------Check the cells' port setting(For eRan6.0, you need to input theSector ID, or it wont export the useful information).

    From up steps, you can get exactly each cells power setting on each MRFU board; if it'sMRFUd, also you can get each port power used in 4G parts.

    II. GSM Power Setting Check

    1) LST GTRX--------Check GSM Cells' TRX Subrack, Slot, and TRX antenna port (If it'sMRFUe, there is no TRX antenna port).

    2) LST GTRXDEV--------Check each TRX's power;Compare with step1), you can get each MRFU power setting in 2G parts; if it's MRFUd,

    also you can get each ports power in 2G parts.

    3) DSP BTSELABEL;------To get the BarCode, in put the same slots information.(Optional,if you cannot confirm 2G and 4G share which board, you can check by this way)

    From this step, you can get exactly board information, compare 4G board inform, if theyhave the same BardCode, which mean these 2G and 4G cells share the same board.

    III. Conclusion

    From the production, the power limitation as follows,

    For MRFUd, it has two antenna ports, each ports can support 80W,whole MRFUd cansupport 160W;

    For MRFUe, , it only have one antenna ports, one port can support 120W,whole MRFUdcan support 120W;

    Plus the 2G AND 4G power, to check whether power exceeds the MRFU limitation. And ifit's MRFUd, also should check whether exceed each port limitation.
