Mark 8: Submission34Then he called the crowd to him

along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

35For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.

36What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

37Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?38If anyone is ashamed of me and my words

in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."

Love given and received as a gift, not as a right

Philippians 2: Submission1If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ,

if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

King of Kings

Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Blessing

May the Fatherfrom whom every family in earth and heaven receives its namestrengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being,so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith,and that, knowing his love,broad and long, deep and high beyond our knowledge,you may be filled with all the fullness of God;

cf Ephesians 3.15-19And may the Blessing of God Almighty,

the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.
