Faust Park 2018 Preserving Your Past For Your Childrens Future Hello from the History Staff at Faust Park, one of St. Louis Countys most unique parks. The park was created in 1968 through the generosity of Leicester and Mary Plant Faust who donated the property. This was done with the intenon to forever preserve the original estate known as Thornhill. Thornhill was built between 1815 and 1819 by Frederick Bates, the second governor of Missouri. The site was also used to create our Historic Village which preserves buildings that represent the development of St. Louis County. Both the village and Thornhill host a variety of historic programs throughout the year. Over me many other aracons have been added to Faust Park. The St. Louis Carousel, the Buerfly House and the Webster University School of Music are all on the park grounds, although separate from the historical areas. The park also features a large playground, modern restroom facility, 2 picnic sites, a trail, an amphitheater and a reservable covered picnic shelter. The historic homes in the Village will be open for free tours on the above weekends this summer. Guests to the park

$30 per person (Reservation Required)

Come join Nancy, the wife of the second governor of Missouri, at their home

Thornhill in beautiful Faust Park, for light luncheon. What better way to celebrate

Mother’s Day then with polite conversation and lunch served by period dressed

reenactors?

Spring Cleaning at Faust Park April 28, 9am– 3pm

$20/space to sell Free Admission

Clean out the garage, empty the basement and raise some extra cash by bringing your goods to Faust Park to re-sell.

Being located off Olive Blvd. in Chesterfield makes this that prime location to find all those treasures you have been

searching for!

Venders must reserve their spot in advance. Set up will take place from 7-9am. Spaces will be assigned first come first

serve. Food items cannot be sold without a valid food vendor license.

Site opens to buyers at 9am.

Campout on the site of an original Spanish land grant, where the oldest existing

governors house in Missouri still stands. Explore the life of a early pioneer in the

Louisiana Territory before sleeping under the stars. Includes a tour of Thornhill.

Dinner and breakfast provided/bring your own camping gear. Space limited. For their safety pets not allowed.

A Rendezvous with the Past May 19-20, 4pm-9 am

$30/person

Faust Olden Days of Summer June 8, 22 and July 13, 9 am – 12 pm

$10/child in advance by calling the Faust Office or through our website; $15/child day of event

Special event for kids age 2 to 12.

(Parents are FREE with paid child.)

Many activities planned including blacksmith demonstrations, woodworking

demonstrations, rope making, peg making candle dipping, butter churning, and

hayrides.

Activities are subject to change due to staffing.

Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series

Tuesday June 5th through August 14th (Except July 3rd) Music 7-9 pm; gates open at 5:30

Food available to purchase

The Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce will host concerts on Tuesday evenings beginning in June. Bring lawn seating

and the whole family to enjoy a night of live music under the stars. For a complete schedule of bands, dates or rainout

Movie Night at Faust Park Friday June 15

Gates open 7pm; Movie starts at 8:30pm Admission: $3 per person. Ages 2 and under free.

Bring your blankets, chairs and spend the evening at Historic Faust Park to enjoy a movie under the stars with your

family. This event will take place at the Faust Park Amphitheater.

Soda, Water and snacks available for purchase. No coolers allowed.

Bike through Time June 24, noon and 2pm

$5/person ages 12 and up Advanced Reservations Required

Get a close up view of history and explore the historic buildings and sites of Faust Park led by an expert guide as you

“bike through time”. The journey will not exceed two hours. All skill levels welcome. Helmet is required.

Missouri Harvest Hayrides September 15 & 16

3, 4, 5 & 6 pm $10 per person (Advanced Reservations Required)

Visit the village only for $5 per person

Taking the place of our Fall Heritage Festival we invite you to join us to celebrate harvest in Missouri. Take a

hayride through historic Faust Park, with views of the Governor’s mansion and the Faust Estate as well as

beautiful tree lined trails. Join us in the Historic Village to watch and try your hand at various harvest time

activities.

History Hayrides at Faust Park October 5 & 6 6, 7, and 8 pm $10 per person

Advanced Reservations Require

Join us after dark for a hayride around Faust Park. Then wander through candlelit historic homes, where refreshments

and storytellers await. Warm up with a campfire. Tickets must be purchased in advance from our website

stlouisco.com/Parks or by calling 314-615-8332 or 314-615-4386.

Want to skip the hayrides? Visit just the Historic Village for $5!

Governor Frederick Bates has been at rest for 193 years and he’s now rested well enough to visit with you at his graveside. Join Frederick, his wife Nancy, other members of the family and a few more resident ghosts in the family cemetery behind Thornhill, in Faust Park. The house will be appropriately

decorated and historically dressed docents will explain mourning practices and superstitions of the period. Please come, the Governor is dying to meet you.

An Evening in the Cemetery October 19 and October 20; 6:30-9pm $5 per person, children under 4 free

Come experience the beauty of the holiday season at the home of Missouri’s second governor in

Historic Faust Park. Explore the customs of holidays of the past on this self-guided stroll through the

festively adorned rooms with historically dressed docents in attendance.

Candlelight Stroll of Thornhill December 7, 6-9pm December 8, 5-9 pm

$10 per adult in advance, $12 at the gate. $5 per children ages 4-12 (under 4 are free)

Private Tours and Education Programs

In addition to our Open House Weekends, it is possible to arrange tours of both the Historic Village and Thornhill for group outings. Village tours include all four of the houses as well as some of the other buildings. A tour of Thornhill

focuses on the home, including the summer kitchen, with additional information provided regarding the various out-buildings. The tours are conducted by members of our History Department staff.

Faust Park offers a variety of educational programs designed to help both traditional and non-traditional school groups meet their Missouri History education requirements. All of these programs are crafted to give students insight into life in the territorial era and early years of statehood by providing “hands-on” learning about survival on the frontier. For
