Web Part deployment

Use the SharePoint administration tool stsadm.exe via a Command Prompt or the

SharePoint Administration Console. You find the tool for

SharePoint 2010 at:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\14\BIN\

and for Sharepoint 2007 at:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN\

Install Visendo Fax Feature:

stsadm -o addsolution -filename VisendoFax10Interop.wsp

stsadm -o deploysolution -name VisendoFax10Interop.wsp -url http://localhost -local -

allowgacdeployment -force

Configuration of SharePoint to use Fax Server

Web Service

Using - SPVisendoFaxAdm.exe [ServiceUrl:<url>] [DefaultMail:<mail>]

Notes:

- The argument name is case sensitive

- The ServiceUrl is the url to the Visendo Fax service

- The DefaultUser is required for sending a fax AND if the current SharePoint user is anonym

- The DefaultMail is required for sending a fax AND if the current SharePoint users mail address is not

specified or the user is anonym

Examples:

SPVisendoFaxAdm.exe ServiceUrl:http://localhost:810/FaxClientService.svc DefaultUser:Administrator

DefaultMail:[email protected]

Sending the current document as a fax

Sending documents as faxes from SharePoint works for following extensions: PDF, image documents

(tiff, jpg,gif,bmp,png,sff), text documents and MS Word documents ,you find a complete list at the

end of this chapter.

To send other documents as faxes, try to open them and to send them with the printing function

(select “Visendo Fax Printer” as printer; if this option is not available, contact your system

administrator).

You can either select one or several contacts from an existing Sharepoint Contact List, or you can

enter the fax numbers directly (if you enter several fax numbers, separate them with a semicolon

“;”).

You receive a message after the fax job was successfully generated. Please note that this does not yet

mean that your fax has been successfully sent. You will receive an email notification from the Visendo

Fax Server after the fax has been sent (or after sending has failed). Alternatively, you can use the

Visendo Sent Faxes Webpart to see whether your fax has already been sent.

Sending Word documents as faxes

Word documents are not sent directly, but a temporary PDF copy is generated and sent instead. This

conversion is accomplished by SharePoint’s Word Automation Services.

Note: At the moment, the temporary PDF documents are stored in the same library as the original

Word document. If the user has no Write permission for this library, the conversion process will

fail.

Make sure that Word Automation Services are installed and started (via Central Administration),

and that a Word Automation Services proxy is configured:

The default settings should generally be ok, but you should consider setting the conversion frequency

lower, so that users won’t have to wait so long for the conversion to be completed.

The user receives a message after the conversion job was successfully created. Depending on the

system load and the conversion throughput settings (see above), it can take a few minutes until the

conversion is completed and the fax job is generated. The user will receive an email notification from

the Visendo Fax Server after the fax has been sent successfully (or after fax sending has failed).

Configuring Business Data Connectivity access rights – SharePoint 2010

You may encounter “Access denied by Business Data Connectivity” error when trying to access

External List through SharePoint 2010. The reason could be that External List requires External

Content type; and External Content type is using Business Data Connectivity services proxy to access

external Data Source. With the same principle of BDC in MOSS 2007 – users are required to have BDC

Object permission before they can use it. There are several set of permission available for the BDC

object: Edit, Execute, Selectable in Clients, Set Permissions.

Configuring BDC rights

1. Open Central Administration page, and click on Manage service application.

2. Click on Business Data Connectivity Service

3. Open the context menu of the External Content type (ie. External CT in this example). Click on Set

permissions.

4. Add account (Group, or User) and assign the permissions.

5. Set appropriate permission to the BDC object. Remember that BDC object permission rules

the interaction between user and external data source through BDC object.
