MANAGER’S NOTES
Good evening and welcome to tonight’s game.
Let's give the fans something to cheer about in the last game of the calendar year. We need a win to continue in the hunt of the elusive top spot and we are sure that with your help we shall succeed.
Last game ended in 3-3 with plenty of drama unfolding, let's make sure the drama stays at home this time and let's try and get the three points we so desperately need.
Happy Christmas to you all and I look forward to seeing you on the 6th January for our first game of 2016. Then just a few days later on the 11th January it’s the first round of the Rock Cup. Exciting times ahead.

MATCH REPORT
WEDNESDAY 11TH DECEMBER
FC Brunos Magpies 3 v 3 Gib Phoenix
It was a great game of football, riveting and entertaining from the first minute till
the last with both teams throwing caution to the wind and looking for goals and
entertainment and with the final score at 3-3 it was precisely what the neutral
got, bags of entertainment!
The first few minutes of the match were rather cagey with neither team asserting
themselves although Phoenix were playing the better football on the pitch. With
this said, Magpies took the lead after Ahmed Elsahib continued his goalscoring
spree, paced past the Phoenix defence and slotted the ball past Tinajero in the
Phoenix goal. The goal came against the run of play with Phoenix dominating
the game, packing the midfield and winning all the aerial balls and fifty fifty chal-
lenges!
Phoenix did equalise shortly before the end of the half after Cuesta was brought
down by Whelan inside the area and the penalty was duly converted for what
seemed a fair 1-1 at half time. It could have been even better for Phoenix had
Diaz not been the Magpies keeper as he kept out a Fernando Cuesta one on
one (he very rarely misses) with a blinding save.
Phoenix came out fighting during the second half and had three great opportuni-
ties but somehow that man Diaz once again produced stunning save after stun-
ning save to keep his side in the game. Firstly another one on one save was
followed by a tremendous save as Pepe struck a volley from inside the area
which brought out one of the saves of the season (we stll can’t understand how
he stopped it). The keeper was not done here as some more shoddy Magpies
defending was once again the caytalyst for a super save by Diaz who came out
7
and spread himself in
another one on one save.
Magpies though once
again took the lead against
the run of play with referee
El Yeteffti blowing for a
penalty to which Arif
Hattabi responded giving
Magpies a 2-1 lead which
was not deserving at the time. Phoenix did bounce back though and moments
later were level after some more bad defending by the Maggies who were
desperately missing their two linchpins in Tom Hudson and Lewis Constable.
Phoenix continued their dominance and took the lead in the dying embers of the
game after Fernando Cuesta struck past the onrushing Diaz who this time could
do absolutely nothing about the finish. It looked like the script had been written
although one more twist ensued as Magpies levelled just a minute later courtesy
of Elsahib whose scuffed shot somehow, miraculously, found the bottom corner
and sent the Magpies fans into a delirium.
The game had time left for some more drama but both teams settled for the
draw with Magpies lucky to leave the Victoria Stadium with the one point.

Places in European Club Competitions
Dec 16, 2015
Following on from reports in various local media outlets, the Gibraltar FA would like to clarify the exact position in relation to the places that are available for Gibraltarian clubs in the two European competitions: the Champions League & the Europa League.
In 2013 UEFA granted Gibraltar two places in in its club competitions: one team participating in the UEFA Champions League and one in the UEFA Europa League.
Entry into these competitions for the 2017-18 season will be a matter for discussion at the next meeting of the UEFA Club Competitions Committee, in February 2016. Following on from this, formal approval on places and entry for the 2017-18 season will only be confirmed at the end of the 2015-16 season (which is this current season).
Therefore until the UEFA Club Competitions Committee meets in February and once formal confirmation is received at the end of the 2015-16 season, there is currently no change to the number of Gibraltarian Club teams that can qualify for any of the two European Competitions, no matter what our current UEFA Coefficient Ranking stands at.
As and when there is any change to the position, the Gibraltar FA will communicate this accordingly.
Gibraltar XI to play CD San Roque as part of their 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Dec 18, 2015
As part of CD San Roque's 50th anniversary celebrations, a Gibraltar XI (not the National Team) will take on CD San Roque, in San Roque, on the 26th March 2016.
The match kicks off at 5pm and falls in between the two international friendlies next March against Latvia and Liechtenstein.
On behalf of CD San Roque, The Gibraltar FA will be selling tickets for the fixture, once they are made available to us by the club.

Welcome to all Club Chesterton guests.
This evening we host the birthday of a true fan of FC Brunos Magpies. Starting the season as a complete sceptic, she now boasts one of the best attendance records of any fan, beating that, even, of our chairman. She leads the chants, has designed the scarf (albeit messed up on the delivery date) and encourages the open purse strings of the ‘beer and burger’ nights.
She’s waived the right to a posh night out on her birthday and instead chosen to attend this match, amongst friends, to cheer on the team to an all important 3 points.
Today lades and gentlemen, on the 21st December, it is the birthday of my lovely wife Jackie Nicholls. Please join me in a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” in the 21st minute of tonight’s match.
To further celebrate this most prestigious affair, we are proud to present the first ever female mascot in a second division league fixture in the 120 year history of the GFA. Lucy Nicholls will lead the team out. More about Lucy on page 21.
Then to complete the family affair, Harry Nicholls’ new brand ‘ironeyes’ is the programme sponsor. Ironeyes is part of his school project—see advert on page 22.
You may wish to know that our match day programme is now available online. This allows our supporters, wherever they may be, to read the programme at their leisure. Simply go to www.issuu.com and search for FC Brunos Magpies. So the first club in Gibraltar with a matchday programme is now the first club with a matchday programme online.
We will keep on innovating and keep on supporting our sponsored team.
I am sure that you will agree with me that the season so far has been a whole lot of fun. I wish you a very happy Christmas and a promotion winning 2016.
Have a nice evening.
Mike Nicholls
MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB SPONSOR—CHESTERTON
10
The team really appreciate our support. Here are a few songs / chants we’ve
sung or have been submitted over the last few weeks, to get the vocal chords
going - some you will recognise and some are new (further contributions are
always welcome)....
For our goal scoring squad...
Ahmed
Ahmed, Ahmed, Ahmed,
Ahmed....Ahmed....Ahmed (you know
the tune!)
Harry – to the tune of Harry Krishna
Harry, Harry-Harry, Harry-Harry, Harry, Harry Perry
Arif – to the tune of Hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, Ar-if
Devonte - to the tune of My Old Man’s a Dustman
Devonte is magic, he wears the captain’s hat,
He went to play for Bournemouth, but he didn’t fancy that,
He likes to play with Ahmed, Arif, Harry too,
And if you ask him nicely he will score a goal for you.
And for the BEST goalkeeper in the league (what a fantastic performance last
match!)
Fernando – Abba’s classic Fernando
There was something in the air that
night,
The stars were bright – Fernando.
They were shining there for you and
me,
For liberty – Fernando.

Message sent in from our Swedish fans

How about this one for our manager Joel – to the tune of The Grand Old
Duke of York
Oh...the grand old Joel of Gib,
He had 11 men,
He marched them up to the top of the Rock,
And he marched them down again,
And we are going up,
Cos we’re not staying down,
But if we’re only half way up,
Then the fans will stick around.
Perhaps the fans deserve some praise – so to the tune of He’s Got the Whole
World in his Hands:
You’ve got the only fans in the league,
You’ve got the only fans in the league,
You’ve got the only fans in the league,
You’ve got the BEST fans in the league.
And finally a couple of Christmas numbers
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to support Bruno’s every day.
Or
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way,
We will be promoted in the merry month of May!
We are on the lookout for some more catchy FC Bruno’s tunes, even an
anthem. It needs to be lively, easy to remember, fun and not too long. All
ideas are welcome, so get your creative juices flowing.
Please email any suggestions to [email protected].
The best will be published in a future program and we will let the crowd
decide.

Football Gibraltar run through last week's Second Division action.
Europa Point missed the chance to go top of the Second Division after a 0-0 draw with Cannons. Europa Point had numerous chances to take the lead through Jonathan Tadafe & Sebastien Osei-Obengo, but Cannons keeper Tito Podesta pulled off a great performance to keep them out and salvage his team a well-deserved point.
The “Game of the Week” saw Gib Phoenix take on Bruno’s Magpies. Ahmed Elsahib gave Magpies the lead in the 18th minute, before Phoenix equalised just before half-time. Ivan Pecino scored from the penalty spot to send the teams in level.
Phoenix could have taken the lead early in the second half but Magpies keeper Fernando Diaz pulled off an unbelievable reaction save to keep out Jose Luis Lopez. Magpies took the lead in the 71st minute, as Arif Hattabi slotted his penalty away. Less than ten minutes later Phoenix equalised. Jonatan Benavente picked up a loose ball in the box and smashed his shot past Diaz.
With two minutes remaining Phoenix took the lead. Fernando Cuesta beat the offside trap and drilled his shot into the bottom corner. The Phoenix celebrations were short-lived as Ahmed Elsahib equalised less than a minute later to secure Brunos a point.
The first part of Sunday’s double header saw Mons Calpe comfortably see off College 1975 10-0. Vazquez Gonzalez got proceedings underway scoring in the 3rd minute. Mons doubled their lead in the 18th minute, as Thomas Lucena slotting his shot away. Mons made it 3-0 in the 38th minute, with Ruben Ruiz grabbing himself a goal.
Vazquez Gonzalez bagged his brace in the 51st minute and Mons Calpe’s fourth. Three minutes later Salvador Ruiz Vallejo made it 5-0. Vazquez completed his hat-trick two minutes later and Francis Marquez made it 7-0 from the penalty spot. Mons Calpe made it 8 and 9-0 in less than a minute, with Alex Gonzalez and Ruben Ruiz getting the goals. The rout was completed in the 89th minute, Colin Machin with the goal that bought up double figures. This win sees Mons go on top, level on points with Leo.
Our final game of the week saw high-flying Cannons beat Europa Pegasus 2-0. Cannons opened the scoring in the third minute; Dani Navarro latched onto a through ball from Cristobal Fernandez and slotted his shot past the keeper.
Cannons doubled their lead in the 26th minute; Dani Navarro capitalised on a Pegasus mistake, rounded the keeper and tapped his shot into an empty net. Cannons were able to hold on and secure the three points which sees them remain seventh.

Chesterton has raised £1,128 for GBC Open Day. The ‘Chesterton Café’ opened at 8am on Friday 11th December 2016. The egg and bacon aroma wafted down Ocean Village Promenade tempting passers-by and local office workers to buy over 100 breakfast rolls. At midday the Café switched to homemade cakes. Each member of staff had baked a variety of cakes, cookies and
brownies to sell, with every penny raised going to GBC Open Day’s charity. Brunos Bar & Restaurant donated mulled wine to help wash down the desserts. Then in conjunction with the Chesterton Café, a competition was held to guess the number of sweets in a jar which Sonia McKay of Isolas won by correctly choosing 516. “Our GBC Open Day is now an annual tradition for us” said Jacky Carreras-Dyer of Chesterton who organised the event. “Each one of our staff looks forward to a day where we focus on fund raising and community spirit. We had a lot of fun. In fact we enjoyed it so much, we might start cooking bacon rolls every day!”
