BUILDING DIGITAL STRATEGY IN CITIES •  Building a series of demonstrator test-beds

for IoT in cities •  Creating the world’s first database of

economic impact of IoT in cities •  Proving the market exists and that the

economics are viable for SMEs and cities alike

• Measurement  informs:  –  Policy  at  local  and  na4onal  levels  –  Which  data  sets  should  be  opened  up

–  What  data  sets  need  to  be  gathered

–  Realis4c  interven4ons  that  can  have  real-‐world  impact  on  local,  regional  and  na4onal  economies

WHY MEASURE?

•  Currently,  measures  on  “Digital”  are:  •  Anecdotal  •  Comparing  oranges  to  apples  •  Mainly  qualita4ve  case  studies  •  Poorly  structured

•  Gives  widely  varying  impacts  of  the  value  of  digital  technologies

•  This  is  problema4c  for  a  broad  number    of  reasons…

BUILDING DEMONSTRATORS

•  Two main types of test beds are required: •  Experimental city test beds •  Smaller test beds that allow SMEs to illustrate

their capabilities
