Bioswales:
Man-made channels that retain and treat storm water.
Bioswales are built wide, shallow, and nearly level. This allows storm water to soak into the ground. A variety of plant materials removes pollutants in storm water through natural processes. Bioswales fall under the category of bioretention.

Building Orientation:
Direction the building faces. In most climate zones in the northern hemisphere, the long
side of a building should be on the south side. The largest area of windows should also be on the South side. If facing the South, there is usually enough roof area for solar water heating and PV (photo voltaic) panels. South-facing glass can be easily optimized through shading and glazing for passive solar heating. Though a southern exposure is ideal, the building can be oriented up to 30 degrees away from due south without losing much energy benefit.
