FdA Creative Digital Media – Wordpress Portfolio Blog Step by step guide
We have created a blog page template that you should visit to help understand how you will log your work: Please visit the following address and read through all of the pages so you get a good understanding of the course: http://fdacreativedigitalmedia.wordpress.com/ This is a guide to setting up your WordPress Blog and adjusting the settings so that you can record all of your work for individual units separately.
1. You should get this created before you start the course and get used to using WordPress. Go to: http://wordpress.com/ and click on:
2. Complete all of the details making sure that you select something very close to your name as the blog address.
3. Go to your email and activate your blog – this will take you to your Dashboard which is where you can create your WordPress blog.
4. Watch the little video that is in the middle of this screen as it is a good introduction to the site.
5. The first thing you are going to want to do is select an appearance – to keep it simple it would be best if we all just selected the same for the moment. Click on Appearance on the left hand side:
6. Then do a search for the theme we have used:
Motion
7. Click on Activate to set it as your theme.
8. The next thing you want to set up are all of your own categories so that you can keep different blog flows running depending on the category of unit you are working on. The way to create this is to click on Posts in the Dashboard and then on Categories which will open underneath the Posts button:
9. This will take you to a window where you can set up all the categories that you will work on:
10. Start adding categories so that you have the following categories:
• App Study Skills • C+ Media Studies • C+ Writing • Creative Tech 2 • Glossary + • Graphics and Interactive • Production Tech • About • Study Skills • Work-‐Based Learning
Simply writing the names into the box and then clicking on Add Category (don’t worry about the other settings for the moment):
Please note – the “Read First – About” category is just an edited title of the 1st one that WordPress gives you which in yours will be called “uncategorised”. This is what it will show as the 1st page when people log into your blog. You can change this to “About Me” if you like by clicking the Edit button underneath it:
11. Once you have done that you are ready to start adding posts. Click on Add New in the Dashboard under Posts:
12. You could start adding the information that you have found so far on the Glossary of words. You can keep adding to it later on:
13. When you feel that you have done enough work on it you need to select which category you want it to go in – otherwise it will appear on the front page, select Glossary + then click Publish
14. You can preview your
blog at any time by clicking on your title at the top:
15. You can get back to the Dashboard from your blog at any time by clicking on Dashboard when you hover over the Blog button at the top:
