Welcome to the 10th annual Mappin Simmentals Bull Sale. Have things ever changed in the last 10 years in the cattle industry in Canada-we have all ‘come a long ways, baby!’ Wow what a fall run. If selling these calves for $2.50-3.00/lb. doesn’t put a smile on your face, check your pulse! With calves bringing that kind of cash, it truly does pay HUGE dividends to ensure you are weaning heavy calves. I can’t keep track of the number of guys that have told me over the past 4 months that their Simmie calves outweighed their British calves and netted hundreds of dollars more on their cheque. The quickest way to directly increase your profitability in this market is to increase your pounds weaned and quality of your calves, and high quality bulls are an excellent start.As a Simmental enthusiast, is it delightful to see some of the sweet Simmie influence heifer calves outselling the steers, as we know those are going right back into replenishing our depleted Canadian cow herd with quality females. • ‘Tom’ was a high seller out of Westway’s 2013 sale. We admired him for his structure, cherry red color, outcross pedigree and calving ease. We had 21 calves born his first year, and all were unassisted with lots of vigour at birth-we are expecting 40+ calves from him this spring.• Tom and his offspring are very smooth in their makeup, and docile in nature. He has an extremely uniform group of sons, and his female progeny are every bit as strong. • A pair of cherry red blaze-faced twin brothers-both with that great rib shape and deep chest that Harry stamps his calves with. • One of our favourite black bulls as you just can’t make them any smoother. Great neck extension, yet still has plenty of depth of body, hip and top. Heavy haired with a shot of perfor-mance in the pedigree, but still great calving ease numbers.• 263Z is double bred Player 290P, going back to the 51U bull who, without a doubt in my mind, has the most mass of any Simmental bull out there-and this is passed down to his fe-males. Terms: The terms of this sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale loca-tion unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. Payment due in Canadian Dollars. Bid: Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. no private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. no by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. Disputes: In some cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. Purchaser’s risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. Announcements: Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Bidders are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. Certificate of registry: The proper registration or recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after the settlement has been made. Breeders Guarantee: Should any bull fifteen months of age or older fail to prove a natural breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders and free of any venereal disease, the buyer shall report in writing to the seller and provide a report of a complete examination by a qualified veterinar-ian. This notification shall be provided to the seller no later than four (4) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fifteen (15) months of age, whichever is later. The buyer shall re-turn the bull to the seller at the buyer’s expense. The seller shall have the opportunity to have the bull examined by the veterinarian of his choice. In the instance of a fertility re-test by the seller the bull must weigh the same or more than his posted adjusted 365-day weight. If the bull falls short of

his weight then he must be reconditioned to meet the weight and then re-tested. The seller will then have 45 days to prove this bull a breeder. If this bull proves to be a satisfactory breeder, the bull shall be returned to the buyer. In the event the seller fails to prove the bull a satisfactory breeder the buyer has the option to either accept a replacement f.o.B. the seller’s ranch or a credit equal in value to the actual purchase price. no incidental expenses such as feed, vet charges, interest, etc. will be charged by either party. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price. All warranty and responsibility is limited to replacement of the bull in question and is acknowledged by the buyer as a condition of sale. no guarantee is given that the semen collected from the bull will be suit-able for freezing and/or artificial insemination. once the bull is in buyer’s possession, the Seller provides no guarantee to cover health issues which may include but are not limited to: illness, disease, malnutrition, injury or death. Exception to guarantee: In cases where the animal is subject to any hor-monal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. Bull Semen retention: Mappin Simmentals reserve the right to collect semen on any bull sold for in herd use. This semen will be collected at the buyer’s convenience and at the seller’s expense.
