What is Dopeless® Technology?

Dopeless® technology is a dry, multifunctional coating applied to TenarisHydril premium connections in the mill, avoiding the use of thread compounds.

• The coating is applied in a fully automatic process, assuring that the exact amount of the lubricant required by each connection is distributed in a controlled and uniform way on its surface.

• The process is carried out on dedicated production lines at Tenaris mills and facilities on four continents.

• With Dopeless® technology, the use of contaminating thread compounds, grease and cleaning solvents is no longer required at the rig or yard for pipe storage and running operations.

• The technology is supported by a global services network.

A Perfect Match• The risks involved when running OCTG connections

made from Corrosion Resistant Alloys (CRAs) are far

greater than with standard carbon material.

• Specifically, the material has a greater tendency to

gall and cause problems when making-up the

connections.

• The result of galling can range from slower running

rate & high number of rejections to more serious

effects, like leaking connections.

• Dopeless® coating is applied industrially in the mill,

assuring complete adherence to the steel substrate

both in pin and box. This prevents hot spots of non-

lubricated zones where galling is prone to appear

when using liquid or greasy lubricants.

Featured cases

PA41 is the first well where Energean Oil & Gas, an E&P company with excellent HSE record, used TenarisHydril Dopeless ® Technology to secure the 12-1/4’’ hole section with 9 5/8’’ casing string in Greece.

TenarisHydril Dopeless ® Technology has been used in an environmentally sensitive area, such as the North Aegean Sea, and next to traditional tourist destinations, such as the Island of Thasos.

The use of TenarisHydril Dopeless ® technology reduced the chances of discharging potentially contaminating substances in the well. The technology also prevented the use of fresh water and chemicals to clean up connections or remove storage compounds prior to installation.
