Charity of Choice in Colorado, receiving the E-chievement Award by NationalPublic Radio and a Congressional Leadership Award. Craig Secher, President of Realities for Children Charities, will speak at theRotary Club of Estes Park on Thursday, February 2, at their regular noonmeeting. Secher’s program will review this unique organizational model whichhas built a private-social partnership between the non-profit and for-profitcommunities that is dedicated to seeing that no child in need is forgotten. Secher graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with adegree in psychology with an emphasis on human services. He worked in thechild protection field in Larimer County, including work as a Child ProtectionOngoing Case Manager with the Larimer County Department of HumanServices before founding Realities for Children. For 27 years, Secher hasbeen serving the needs of children that have been abused, neglected or areat-risk in Larimer County. In his role as President of the charity, he isresponsible for Affiliate Youth Agency partnerships and emergency fundallocations. Among numerous accolades, Secher has been featured as a TedX presenterand has been awarded the My Day I Survived award from Child ProtectionServices, the Distinguished Community Partner Award form Lutheran FamilyServices, and the Outstanding Young Coloradan by the Colorado JuniorChamber of Commerce. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders who providehumanitarian service and help to build goodwill and peace in the world. Thereare 1.2 million Rotary members in 34,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200countries and geographical areas. Rotary clubs have been servingcommunities worldwide for more than a century. Rotary clubs around theworld initiate projects that address critical issues such as conflict resolution,hunger, poverty, disease and illiteracy. The Rotary Club of Estes Park meets Thursdays at the Rodeway Inn in EstesPark, located at 1701 North Lake Avenue on Highway 34, just west of DryGulch Road. Visitors interested in learning more about Rotary and itsprograms are welcome to attend. Buffet is served at 11:30 a.m., the Rotarybusiness meeting opens at noon, and the program begins at 12:30 p.m.

Jan. 26 meeting highlights

President Thor called the meeting to order at noon. Brad Rosenbaum gave theinvocation, Dave Evans led us in “Getting to Know You” and the Pledge. KarenMcClure introduced guest Karen Reed and Sunrise Rotarian Lori Gaglio. ScottThompson shared a joke, which all agreed paled in comparison to Karen’soffering last week. Keep practicing, Scott! Thor informed the club that Lois Sumey had sufficiently recovered toreturn home tomorrow. Welcome home, Lois!Thor noted that Bill Smith, Jeff Liddle and Rita DuChateau share aFeb.1 birthday. Because he is a gentleman, he did not reveal the nameof the oldest member of the trio.Jim Austin circulated a photo of Bob Brunson with his Naval aviatorcrew from 1942.

ProgramThor said that instead of a program, the club would gather in committee groupson fourth Thursdays. This effort to build committee membership, leadershipskills and succession planning is one of his four Presidential Goals for thecurrent Rotary year. Other goals include: relocate club meetings to RodewayInn, address the club’s dwindling budget reserves, and increase awareness ofthe Rotary Foundation. He asked each committee chairperson to develop andreport on one action item during today’s meeting. The action items reported at the end of the meeting included:

Dave Evans’s International Service Committee will support a grantrequest for the Guatemala Literacy Project and also look at possibleideas for other projects. His committee also hopes to better educatethe club about International Service.Karol Rinehart’s Club Administration Committee will focus on finding anew Club Administration Director, updating the club’s policies andprocedures manual and discovering the level of interest in 5th Thursdaysocial events.Rick Taylor’s Program Committee plans to be intentional about offeringa variety of programs. His committee has programs scheduled throughJuly.Kathy Groesbeck’s Fund Development Committee will look at ways toenhance successful fundraisers through greater club involvement andwork closely with each activity chairperson to ensure successionplanning.Scott Thompson’s Membership Committee will introduce a MemberCaring and Recognition program, follow up with guests and speakersto encourage membership and increase efforts to recruit and engagecommunity members through the Duck Race and other signatureevents.Roger Thorp’s Community Service Committee will contact a number ofarea groups to determine future projects.
