Bowling for $$ Foundation Fundraiser

ASID Texas Gulf Coast Chapter held its first annual Bowl

for the Foundation Fundraiser on November 16, 2010. This

was an ASID TGCC fundraising first to raise profits for the

foundation. It was also a great networking social for ASID

industry partner's, students, and designers. The bowling

fundraiser was a blast and a great opportunity!!

In attendance was LSC-Kingwood Interior Design Student,

Megan Rosenquist. Miss Rosenquist stated, "I had lots of fun

and enjoyed meeting other Industry Partners and Designers.

It was a great occasion to get to socialize with other students

as well". A raffle was held at the end of the evening where

amazing prizes that included gifts of art, services, and gift

certificates to various industry partners' stores were awarded.

Megan's team won Second Place Overall Team and Megan

herself won First Place High Score Student. Great job

Megan!

DESIGN TIMES

On February 11, 2010 the Congress of clubs

met for its semester meeting. The

organization delegate, Megan Rosenquist

attended and spoke on the behalf of our

organization. At the club she had the

pleasure to hear what was going on in other

organizations of campus. Many of the clubs

were familiar and there were also a few new

ones.

At the meeting there is an overall consensus

that many of the clubs want to get to know

the other clubs and want to socialize and

network amongst each other. Many of the

organizations would also like to work

together and help out with many community

projects. With that statement it was brought

up that maybe a networking and social

meeting should be held. More information

about what is going on campus and clubs is

obtained by attending the Student

Government meetings, but many of the clubs

want a more informal event. The student

government also urged for more student body

and club representation at the Student

Government meetings which are held every

other Thursday (unless campus-wide special

events are scheduled) at 12:30pm in COT

100.

The last topic that was discussed was for

the creation of a student committee that

would collaborate on doing unique things in

the community. It would be a committee

outreach program, that would participate in

town hall meetings and discuss ideas and

programs that would branch into the local

community. This committee is to be

composed of individuals who want to reach

out and connect with the community and

show all the LSC-Kingwood has to offer and

more. The first Student Open Forum

committee meeting will be this Wednesday,

February 16, 2011. It will be held from

1:30pm to 2:30pm. For more information send an email to:

CLUBS OF CONGRESS

GUEST SPEAKERS

Each month our student chapter has the opportunity of being

introduced to talented professionals in the design field. We were

honored to have Diana Walker, former ASID President of the Texas

Gulf Coast, speak to us about her professional experiences and tips

for success including money, leadership, marketing, education, and

employment. Our chapter even participated in a group

demonstration to learn about various aspects of the design business.

One piece of advice that will truly be our guidance will to remember

to "bring a skill to a firm that you can leave behind and leave an

impact".

Our student chapter also had the pleasure of meeting with Valerie

Jones, a commercial and residential designer who owns her own

company Ivory and Aubergine. During her presentation, our

chapter viewed her design portfolio which included pictures of

previous works such as designs of Rockdale High School, and her

current project, San Jacinto College. Valerie Jones was also able to

connect with the chapter on a different level in explaining the

transition from school to the real world.

Suzie Williford has served the Decorative Hardware and Plumbing

industry in Texas since 1975. She has been a member of the NKBA

since 1978 and has held a position on the Board of Directors since

2001. She served on the National Speakers Bureau and has been

invited to speak at colleges, showrooms, design centers and

conventions. An active member of numerous trade and community

organizations, Williford is Vice President of Sales at Kiva Kitchen

and Bath in Houston, Texas. Suzie Williford also help our program

become NKBA accredited!

GOOD LUCK DESIGNERS!

Our chapter would like to recognize IIDA's 2011 Product Runway LSC-

Kingwood design team: Densie Josey, Alexis Murphy, Rachel Macill, and Wendy

Williams. With the help of two sponsors, they will use their creativity for

products to construct a garment out of one hard good and one soft good. This

year provides a concept of "Remix" with themes based on music genres. Good

Luck design team!! We cannot wait to see your creation walk down the runway at

the Verizon Theature on May 5th.

will be creating a unique utility room that is multifunctional

A warm and elegant utility room will be created through the

use of neutral colors and a mixture of metallic elements.

Stainless steel, bronze, and crystal will contribute to the

modernized hill country feel of the home. The functional,

multi-use space will meet the unique needs of each
