Love to Dance Party Thursday, February 1, 2-4 Join us as we host a dance party with a live DJ to play your favorite dance music including line dances and ballroom dancing. Come dance and socialize. How Color Affects You Fridays, 9:30-10:15 Begin your exploration of how colors affect you with a look at the general science behind color. Then, what is the power of color on human behavior in our perception of what food tastes like. Finally, discover the three core ideas that form the foundation of how all humans perceive, interpret, and respond to color. Connect Wednesday, February 7 and 21, 1:15-2:15 No family in the area? Feeling isolated? Living alone without spouse or adult children? Come join our newest program, meet others in similar situations in a safe, cozy, volunteer-led group. Come and make new friends. Museum Masterpieces: The Louvre Wednesday, February 14,1:15-2:30 Take a dazzling virtual tour through the Louvre’s remarkable collection of European paintings from the late medieval period through the early 19th century. Free Vision Screening Thursday, February 15, 11-12:30 The Lions Club will be on site to provide you with Free Vision Screenings Dancing Thursdays, 1-2, Learn Basic Steps Thursdays, 2-3, Line Dancing Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30 Line Dancing Thursdays, 3-4, Couples Dancing You have asked for it and here it is. Come join us in a line dancing class. Don’t know the moves? We will teach you. If you are new to line dancing come to the Thursday 1:00 class to learn the moves. The couples dancing is a great opportunity to get moving with your partner. Great exercise for your heart and it is fun! Learn to use your iPhone or iPad Camera Fridays, February 2, 16 and March 3, 10:00-11:30 Yes there is a camera on your iPhone and iPad but what can it really do? Come get tips on taking better photos, selfies and photo editing. This is a 3 part class. Please sign up for all three classes. Beginning Genealogy Tuesday, February 13, 11:15-12:15 Let’s begin the process of building your heritage and your family’s story through genealogy. We will start with building a family tree. This class will help you gather, find documents and organize your materials. Acrylic Paint Workshop Monday, February 19, 2:30-3:45 This is the place to be for fun and art. We take you step by step (beginners too) through a selected painting with specific instruction and lots of laughs. At the end, voila! You have your very own masterpiece! Paratransit Wednesday, February 14, 10-11:30 A representative of the Paratransit/CAT Bus will be on-site to answer your busing questions or help you apply for the bus services. Travelogue with Jim Sernovitz Wednesday, February 21, 1:15-2:15 CUBA—STUCK IN TIME The Cuban Revolution was over 50 years ago, but for most of its citizens, nothing much has changed. From the vintage cars to, swinging Latin rhythms, the beautiful countryside and even bunkers remaining from the Bay of Pigs days, we visit it all. Come along as we experience a land stuck in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s. Center for Critical Thinking Topic: Breaking News Thursday, February 8, 10:30-Noon An opportunity for you to exercise your brain with engaging conversation in a social setting. Veterans in Paradise (VIP) Thursday, February 8, 1-2:30 This will be a social time to meet other veterans in SWFL. All veterans 60 years of age and older, are encouraged to join us. Come have a cup of coffee and make some new friends. Book Club Tuesday, February 20, 1:45-3:15 The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman Stop by Marla’s office to get a list of the questions to be discussed at the club meeting. Brain Games Workshop Wednesday February 21, 10-11 This month we will learn more about games and meditation and how important it is for your brain. Everyone is invited to attend. Creative Drama Workshop Tuesdays, February 6, 13 and 20, 2:30-3:15 Creative drama allows participants to simultaneously develop sensory awareness, imagination, and creativity. The instructor will lead you through exercises, and there is NO performance involved. Please join us in an enjoyable, non-threatening class where everyone works at their own level. Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE) Wednesday, February 28, 9:30-12 (by appointment) Experienced volunteers will be on-site to help you with any Medicare or health insurance questions or concerns. Please make an appointment with Marla in advance. Empty Bowl Painting Party Tuesday, February 27, 10-11:30 Let your creativity loose as we turn plain ceramic bowl into a work of art. Explore Switzerland from Above-Top Sights Wednesday, February 28, 1:15-2:00. Relax and enjoy the landscapes and history of Switzerland, in beautiful HD video. Great if you plan to visit, or if you want to learn more about Switzer- land. A short discussion will follow the video. Stay Well Mondays, 12-12:45, Cardio and Strength Thursdays, 11:30-12:00, Cardio This Instructor led class includes movement to music to increase your heart rate and increase your balance and endurance. Bring two (2) light hand weights to the Monday class. Please wear comfortable clothing and good supportive athletic shoes. Water Color Painting Tuesdays, 9:45-11:45 Come join our volunteer led Water Color Painting class. Bring your current project, paint and brushes and learn new techniques while socializing with other water color painters. Spanish Tuesdays, 10-11 We are using the Great Courses: Learning Spanish: How to Understand and Speak a New Language Video. Each participant receives a worksheet at each lesson. This month we will be watching lessons 3-6. Gardening Group Thursdays, 10:00-11:15 Members get together to socialize while engaging in activities that are linked to gardening. Please make sure you preregister for gardening by Tuesday of each week so that we have adequate supplies for the class. Bone Builders Thursdays, 12:00-1:00 This is an instructor led chair strength exercise class that helps improve strength and osteoporosis. Recommend that participants bring 2-small hand weights. Crafts Thursdays, 1-2:15 You do not need to be an artist to participate in these craft activities. Simple crafts that everyone can do successfully will be featured. Storytime-Writing Group Fridays, 10:15-12 This class will be continuing The Great Courses: How to Engage and Write about Anything. If you have thought about writing but do not know where to start, this class is for you. Explore your iPhone, iPad or Smartphone Fridays, 10:30-12:00 Bring your iPad, iPhone or Smartphone and let’s answer your questions. Our volunteers will be on hand to help you navigate your device and teach you a few tricks. Hand and Foot Card Game Lessons Fridays, February 2 and 9, 1:00-3:00 Hand and Foot is a North American variant of Canasta. Hand and Foot adds a twist to the basic game of Canasta by introducing more cards—a lot more cards—and giving each player two hands ( a hand and a foot) to have to contend with. JFCS, a non-sectarian social service agency, supports individuals and families of all ages by providing a wide range of social services including: Mental Health Services, Demena Respite Support Groups, Bereavement Support, Caregiver Support, Geriatric Case Manage- ment, Informaon and Referral, Financial Assistance and a Food Pantry. We now o�er shuttle service each Wednesday 10:30-1:30 from the Life Christian Church (1048 Castello Dr) to our Center Please, do not park in the lots directly to the left and right of our building or in the grass around the neighborhood. When our lot is full, our parking lot attendants will assist you. Please do not tip the valets.

No Line Dancing on Tuesday February 20. Tuesday’s 12:30-1:30 Chair Exercise - This class is now led by an instructor. The Couples Ballroom Dancing on Mondays, is full. Intro to Tai Chi: This class is for individuals whom have never had a tai chi class and need to learn the first 10 steps. It will meet 9:30-10:15 on Fridays. Tai Chi One (formerly Beginning Tai Chi) - This class will build on the 10 steps learned in Intro to Tai Chi and includes the entire short form. It will meet at 10:30-11:15 on Fridays Tai Chi Two (formerly Intermediate Tai Chi) - This class will need instructor approval to attend and does not teach the steps but rather improves form and focus on the entire short form. It will meet 1:30-2:15 on Tuesdays. Friday afternoon 1-3:30 is Games and Cards. Our current list of activities include: Bridge, Cards and Marbles, Chess, Cribbage, Progressive Rummy, Pinochle, Mag Jongg, Hand and Foot and Jig Saw Puzzles. Beginners to advanced players are welcome. Be sure to sign-up in Copilot in advance. ART CLASSES-Please bring your own photos to paint from. All other supplies are provided—ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST PREREGISTER Feb. 5 Monochromatic painting Feb. 12 Paint your pet (from a photograph) Feb. 19 Paint a portrait (from a photograph) Feb. 26 Pass your painting! MOVIES—Have some popcorn and enjoy watching movies on our theater size screen. There will be a film discussion immediately following the movies Lion and St. Vincent.
