Mission Statement Through the teachings of Jesus Christ and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we, as Catholic Christians, strive to teach our youth, evangelize our community and renew our faithful. We will promote the principles of the Catholic Church through Scripture, Sacraments, prayer, almsgiving and penance —
helping each other to seek eternal salvation with God in heaven.

Boats, Fishes and Nets
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In Rome, there are little pictures of fish and boats on the walls of the catacombs dating back to the Second Century A.D. The image of a boat had significance even in the Old Tes-tament: Noah and his family were saved from the great flood by building an ark (Gn 6-9); the daughter of Pharaoh discovered baby Moses floating in a boat-like basket on the Nile River (Ex 2:10). In today’s gospel (Luke 5:1-11), Jesus chooses the boat of Simon Peter from which to teach the people and preach the gospel. The early Church Fathers saw this passage as another reference to the primacy of St. Peter among the apostles. The ministry of the Successor of St. Peter, the Pope, is the min-istry of unifying the Church: unifying the bishops, ministers, religious and lay faithful. It is also the ministry of teaching one set of doctrines – of teachings on faith and morals – to Christ’s faithful. In the gospel this Sunday, Jesus tells Simon Peter: “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch” (Lk 5:4). Notice: St. Peter at first gives a very human response, but trusting in the direction of the Lord Jesus, he directs the other apostles to lower their nets. Jesus gives the instruction to St. Peter and the other apostles obey him. This is a primordial example of how Jesus Christ unifies His Church through the Papacy. What happens next teaches us two things: humility before God’s awesome power and a deeper understanding of the mission of the Church. At seeing the great catch after so hu-man a response, Simon Peter says, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man” (Lk 5:8). He is aware of his sinfulness before the purity of God’s infinite love. Peter expresses his in-ternal adoration of Jesus by falling to his knees, which is why we kneel in Mass. (Kneeling is our sign of humble adoration of the Sacrament.) Jesus comforts Simon Peter by revealing His mission: “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men” (Lk 5:10). And the gospel records they left everything to follow Jesus. My brothers and sisters in Christ, we are entering into the sacred season of Lent in less than a month, a time for us to detach ourselves from things so we can focus on our mission. In one sense, we are already that big catch: we are the little fishes of Christ, and Christ is the big fish! In another sense, we are also called to help bring back the lost “fish” to the unity of St. Peter’s net. Our parish may not be a very big boat, however, there is plen-ty of room for more fish. How are we going to be “fishers of men” this Lent? 40 Days for Life <40daysforlife.com/tyler> is a way to net all the fish together – even the separated ones – and to preach the Gospel of Life so that our local community can be spared the devasta-tion caused by abortion.
Yours in Christ, Fr. Lowry

PÁGINA DE NUESTRO PASTOR
Barcos, Pesca y Redes.
Lowry

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of
God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
