Their greetings are completedThey enter to the living roomThe ladies are then seated.

A verbal memo, it was sent

Earl received from Sally“Your appointment will be soon

You have no time to dally”.

In the car were Earl and WaltThey motored to the mall

Earl then left him at the doorWalter leaned against the wall.

Positioned near the entrance door

That’s where he rolled a smokePeople glared with great intrigue

Not one person spoke.

Then near the ashtray, she appearedOld Walter was aware

He now had a smoking mateShe had peacock colored hair.

Walter’s such a gentleman

He said, “Howdy do”With a wink, she then exhaled,

“It’s nice meeting you”.

Walter’s ears are somewhat dimHe must strain to listen

He was sure he caught her nameSomething might be missin’.

She had a doodad in her snout

Like a hog ring for a sowHe knew she had her bearingsThey protrude out of her brow.

Walter thought he heard her nameThough no one will ever know

Rings and things in ears and tongueIntrigue began to show.

Chat must be her middle name

Knowledge was amassedWalter soon was joined by Earl

Time had quickly passed.

Back at Earl’s, Walter spokeHe told them all about it

The other three just shook their headsIn no way would they doubt it.

Ol’ Walter pondered yet.

CREDIT CARD RELIEF Recent economic reports have observed that Americans reverted back tothe credit-dependent trends of the eighties. Apparently, the nation’s populacehasn’t heeded the warnings regarding carrying too much debt. Unfortunately,this statement could be applied to the federal government as well. For families grappling with swollen credit card balances, professionalfinancial advisors offer a three-step strategy for coping with year-end bills and avoiding future troubles. The International Association for Financial Planning(IAFP), recommends:

understanding the credit terms of card issuers,learning how, and whether, cards should be used, anddeveloping an aggressive plan for paying off debts.

Consumers should find out the conditions and policies of their lenders, such as length of grace period, whether the interest rate is fixed or variable, and how much is charged for cash advances. A study by Princeton Survey Research Associates found that 76 percent ofcard holders do not know their credit cards’ payment terms. Most people havetoo many credit cards and are surprised at just how high a price they pay forthe convenience of the card. Most consumers only need one major credit card that is universallyaccepted. For people who have the cash flow to pay off balances each month, a charge card - rather than a credit card - is a better choice. If credit is needed,choose a card with the lowest available interest rate. Often, people with one ormore credit cards should look for a card that charges less interest and transferall of their debt to that one card. Ultimately, the way to bring credit card debt under control is with anaggressive plan to pay off existing balances. After consolidating as many credit card bills as possible, tackle the card with the highest interest rate first. Pay as much as possible toward the principal each month, while paying theminimum required on any other cards. As you eliminate the balance, beginpaying more toward the principal on the others. Credit cards sometimes make sense for smaller or short-term needs, butfor major purchases, a home equity line of credit might be a better choicesince the interest is lower and is usually tax deductible. Understanding the proper use of credit cards is an important part of the overall financial planning process. Be sure to check with your financial advisor to see what alternatives are available to you.

• Diets cause starvation mode: Most diets cause a starvation mode that actually slows themetabolism, rather than resetting the system (for example, the pancreas). Alongwithimproperdieting, individualsoftenrelyonexercisetoloseweight,andwhileexercisingisimportanttomaintainproperbodyhealth,itisaveryinefficientwaytoloseweightonitsown.Apersoncanrunanentiremarathonandloseonly3,500calories(1poundoffatequals3,500calories).Youmayknowsomeonewhostartedexercising,onlytoquicklygetfrustratedbytheamountofworktheyweredoingwhilenotgettingtheresultstheydesired.

Zombie Voters Fifteen years ago, I assembled a horse and mule cavy to use in my cattle drive busines. Joe Diffie was well ahead of today’s trend line when he released the country/western hit “Prop Me Up Beside the Juke Box (If I Die)”. The lyrics humorously describe the last wishes of a barfly and the mythical image makes you chuckle, or at least it did in 1993. Look around. Do you see any dead people? Look hard because apparently dead people are harder to spot today than they were 18 years ago. The perfect example of this desensitization was seen (or not seen) last week in an internet café in Taiwan. A 23-year-old was sitting in the corner playing video games when he cardiac arrested. With 30 other patrons passing in and out of the café, his corpse continued playing Angry Birds for nine hours and no one noticed he was dead. Granted, this is a news story from Asia, but I see no reason why this couldn’t have happened in the electronic cafés of Seattle, San Francisco or Denver. Could progressives capitalize on this inattentiveness for nefarious purposes? Ponder that thought while I appear to change horses. Don’t worry, I’ll be back. Let’s say you own 100 cows and ten of them disappear through the fence. When your banker learns of your ten percent loss he will prolapse, so you saddle up, call your dog and ride the neighboring pastures. Your search is futile. While commiserating with fellow cowboys over pie and coffee at the local sale barn cafe, an eavesdropping official from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics approaches your table. “I couldn’t help but overhear your problem, but I have some very good news about your cows,” he explains. “Look at this way: Since your cows were smooth mouthed and skinny, very likely only eight of the missing cows were actually carrying a calf, so do not count the two non-pregnant escapees. On paper, this drops your loss from ten percent to eight percent. Does that help?” You thank him for his useful insight, but resume banging your head on the table because you know you are still missing ten cows regardless the magical calculations of the shiny man in the three-piece suit. He takes you for a fool; the kind who could play video games for nine hours while unknowingly sitting next to a corpse and this brings me to my point. The White House is trumpeting Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) headlines the unemployment rate has dropped to 8.3 percent and our economic recovery is underway. This message is targeting a very specific audience. Voters playing video games at the electronic café are expected to look up, read the MSNBC headlines, elbow the cold stiff guy sitting next to them, and mumble “Obama’s stimulus plan must be working.” They then click to the next kingdom of their game and retreat back into their cocoon. Just like not counting the non-pregnant escaped cows, the BLS mathematically dropped 1.2 million unemployed Americans from the job hunting list, so the unemployment figure magically dropped to 8.3 percent. Folks, you are being played for the fool. The fact is the number of Americans pulling the wagon for the Americans riding in the wagon has dropped to a 30-year low of 63.7 percent. Congressional Budget Office figures released earlier in the week are not as polished. They list our actual unemployment rate at 10 percent, our federal budget down another 1.1 trillion for the year, and are projecting tax increases of 30 percent over two years on those of us who still actually have jobs and are pulling the wagon. If we do not recognize the job numbers as cooked it is likely we will accept equally preposterous things like Obamacare will magically both cheapen and expand health coverage for all Americans. It is time to wake up and look around for dead people. Remember, a zombie’s vote counts just as much as yours. (Did that scare you?)
