Why an Art Gallery? by Michael Gusky Newsletter What’s Happening at RB Community Church Issue No. 62 February 16-17, 2019 Our church has a history of a deep appreciation for the arts. In the late 90’s, with the construction of a new sanctuary, an art gallery was created. Many of the exhibiting artists over the past 20+ years have commented that it is one of the finest art gallery venues in our area! Over the years, the exhibits have brought moments of quiet and joyful reflection on the endless creativity of God’s people. e unique abilities of the artists, and their interpretation of the things that make up our world, are on full display. Our next Art Show involves congregation participation; we need YOU to make it happen! e theme is “ALL THINGS HOLY,” and it runs March 9 thru May 1. We are collecting items that you are willing to loan to the gallery on Sunday, March 3rd from 9:30 am-1:00 pm. Some suggestions for sharing are (but not limited to): Crosses, Bibles; statues, artwork; (paintings, sculpture); garden pieces (St. Francis, angels), and other objects representing our faith and Holy God. (See the current instal- lation for examples of the description tags). e Arts Forum plans the art gallery displays up to a year in advance. Currently, the Arts Forum is seeking out art lovers to be a part of this satisfying, creative, and fun group. Anyone can be a part of this ongoing tradition. Participation involves gathering to plan future show themes, and working with the artists to arrange and install the shows. No artistic expertise is needed - just a love of creativity in all its different forms, and a willingness to help. So…why an art gallery? LENT Service ProjectDuring Lent many people give up something This year we are asking that you go through your things and choose 40 items you no longer use or want Give up things that are gently used and that might be of use to someone else Wersquoll be distributing collection bags with a list of items our Resale Shop can use to restock their shelves You can return the bags to the church office the courtyard on Sundays or take them to the Resale Shop in Poway anytime during the Lenten Season All proceeds help support our local and global missions

Stewardship TestimonyI love my church I love the way we reach out to our community to spread Godrsquos Word I love how we open our doors to allow others to come to know God In Matthew 2819-20 Jesus told His disciples ldquoGo therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to ob-serve all that I have commanded yourdquo The first step to that Great Commission starts right here in our own back yard
I love the way our church makes itself available to the Boy Scouts to the Womenrsquos and Menrsquos Cross-talk Bible Studies to the Wom-enrsquos and Menrsquos Community Bible Studies and to other outside or-ganizations I love the activity that goes on every day of the week as our church shows to our commu-nity the love that Jesus preached This does not happen without sacrifice and giving on the part of those of us who attend regularly and provide financial support so that we can provide this benefit to our community
But God talks about this as well In 2 Corinthians 97 Paul teaches ldquoEach one must give as he has de-cided in his heart not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giverrdquo By allowing our church to open its doors to oth-ers in our community we become cheerful givers I love my church And it is my honor to financially support Godrsquos work through our church family
